Ma Dong-seok, better known as Don Lee, is one of the three protagonists. The Marvel and Train to Busan actor portrays Nam-san, a ruthless wasteland hunter. During an interview with Publimetro Mexico, he confessed that his role was very different from his previous characters.



The South Korean star had to perform several action sequences during the scenes, wielding swords, machetes, pistols, and even rifles. He assured that he always tries to keep his fellow actors safe while performing such maneuvers.



“I try to maintain my stamina and prepare, so every time there’s an action scene, I can go straight into it. I think it’s almost the same for all actors. We look at the scripts, the director, and who we’re working with, but you know, in most of my projects, I also produce besides acting, which gives me more freedom”, he confessed.

The story has become popular in record time, but it’s also due to the fact that many viewers who watched the first installment, Concrete Utopia, were eagerly awaiting its continuation. The narrative is set after an earthquake turns Seoul into a lawless and inhospitable land, so the main trio has only two options: hunt or die. Lee Joon-young, No Jeong-ee and Jun Hee Lee are some of the figures who accompanied the 52-year-old actor.

However, it’s not all too easy, as he has been incarcerated for five years and has been sentenced to capital punishment. Both detectives try to get his help to catch the mysterious imitator.



The criminal is portrayed by John Malkovich, who does an exceptional job embodying a killer negotiating and seeking a reduced sentence. In addition to the three main actors, the cast also includes other notable figures such as Jacob Grodnik, Aidan Turner and Jeremy Turner.

The crime thriller premiered on January 18 and this morning, according to Flix Patrol, it has become the sixth most-watched <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/category/films">movie</a> worldwide, surpassing “Point Blank” and “Mindcage”.

Netflix: The crime thriller that ranks in the top 6 worldwide within a week of release

“Point Blank,” a<a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/thriller"> crime thriller</a> starring Captain America’s star Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo, is one of the most-watched movies on<a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/netflix"> Netflix</a> globally as of January 22, according to FlixPatrol. The film, which was originally released in 2019, has climbed to the sixth position of the Top 10 at the start of this week.



The film was directed by Joe Lynch, who is known for movies such as “Creepshow” (2021) or “Suitable Flesh” (2023). The story follows an ER nurse (Mackie), who is forced to spring a wounded murder suspect named Abe (Grillo) from the hospital when the man’s brother kidnaps his pregnant wife and wants to make a trade.

Apart from Mackie and Grillo, the film also stars Marcia Gay Harden, Teyonah Parris, Boris McGiver, and Markice Moore. The movie is a remake of the 2010 French film, “À bout portant,” directed by Fred Cavayé, who co-wrote the script with Guillaume Lemans.



<h2>Point Blank is a homage to 80’s remakes</h2>



In an interview with Decider, Grillo, who also produced the movie, explained that the idea came from the producing company that made the original film. The new script was written by Adam Simon, who is known for movies such as Man Down. He also appears in the film as an officer.&nbsp;



Grillo explained that in post-production, the team came up with the idea of making the film as an “homage to those ’80s action thrillers. We nurtured this thing from an idea to the page. It was kind of like giving birth.”

However, while the film is being embraced by audiences, critics weren’t that enthusiasts of the movie. It received mixed reviews, with critics praising the action and humorous moments of the film, but stating that the characters were undeveloped. It holds a 40% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.



Curiously, the movie isn’t the first remake of the French movie. There is a 2014 South Korean remake titled “The Target,” which starred Ryu Seung-ryong and Lee Jin-wook. Also in 2019, another remake, the Bangladeshi “Password” was released.

After starring alongside <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/paul-mescal">Paul Mescal</a> in the fantasy drama “All of Us Strangers,” Andrew Scott is set to take the role of Tom Ripley for <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/netflix">Netflix</a>’s series “Ripley.” The eight-part <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/thriller">thriller</a> will premiere on April 4th on the platform, as the streamer announced in the new teaser (to watch below).



The series also stars Johnny Flynn (Emma, One Life) and Dakota Fanning (Vienna and The Fantomes, The Equalizer 3). Flynn will play millionaire Dickie Greenleaf, while Fanning appears as Dickie’s girlfriend, Marge Sherwood.

<h2>Zaillian teases his new version of the story</h2>



Just as the movie, in the series Ripley, grifter scraping by in early ’60s New York, is hired by a wealthy benefactor to convince his vagabond son Dickie Greenleaf to return home from Italy. But Tom quickly becomes enchanted by the glamor of Dickie’s lifestyle and does everything to ensure his place alongside him.



Zaillian told Vanity Fair in December that the series, which he also executive produces, will allow him to be “more faithful to the story, tone, and subtleties of Highsmith’s work,” adding that he tried to “approach my adaptation in a way I imagined she might herself.”

Meanwhile, Scott told the outlet that playing Ripley was “mentally and physically really hard,” as he always aims “to love and advocate for your characters […] You don’t play the opinions, the previous attitudes that people might have about Tom Ripley.”



He added: “You have to throw all those out, try not to listen to them, and go, ‘Okay, well, I have to have the courage to create our own version and my own understanding of the character.’”



<h2>What are other adaptations of The Talented Mr. Ripley?</h2>



Before the movie “The Talented Mr. Ripley” in 1999, the novel had been turned into the 1960 film “Purple Moon,” where Alain Delon played the character Tom. In 2009, BBC Radio 4 brought all five Ripley novels to life, featuring Ian Hart as Tom.
