Split is one of the most popular suspense, drama and even horror films of recent years, not only for its intriguing plot but also for its incredible ensemble cast, led by Anya Taylor-Joy and James McAvoy.

This week, the 2016 title directed by M. Night Shyamalan has become the second most-watched film in the United States on Netflix, surpassing other popular productions on the platform, such as “The Accountant”.

It received generally positive reviews for the lead performances and direction, as well as for its ability to create suspense and tension. However, it also sparked discussions about its portrayal of dissociative identity disorder.

Split ranked No. 2 movie on Netflix US

Netflix has once again updated its Top 10 list of the most-watched movies during the week, and this time it was “Split” which took the second position, displacing other hits on the platform.

According to Flix Patrol, the psychological horror thriller has been accumulating hundreds of views among American users, and although it’s not a global hit, it’s one of the most popular in the United States.

The film centers around a man named Kevin Wendell Crumb, portrayed by James McAvoy, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID), formerly known as multiple personality disorder.

The plot unfolds when Kevin kidnaps three teenagers and holds them captive in an unknown location. As the girls try to escape, they discover that he possesses multiple personalities.

Each of these personalities has distinct and, in some cases, dangerous characteristics. Among these personalities is “The Beast”, a violent and superhuman figure.

A notable aspect of the film is its connection to another Shyamalan title, “Unbreakable” from 2000, revealed at the end of “Split” through a post-credits scene, which led fans to speculate about a possible continuation.

These theories were confirmed with the movie “Glass” from 2019, which served as a sequel to both films, completing an unexpected but well-received trilogy for fans of M. Night Shyamalan‘s cinema.
