In the late 1970s, when Columbia Pictures asked for a sequel to “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” Spielberg conceived the idea for “Night Skies.” The story was inspired by the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter, where a Kentucky family reported being terrorized by gremlin-like aliens.



The story centered on eleven malevolent extraterrestrial scientists trying to communicate with chickens, cows, and other beings to identify sentient species on Earth. Then, they would turn aggressive against a human family, dissecting their farm animals in the process.



Spielberg reserved cargo space on the 1980 inaugural Space Shuttle flight to film the Earth and its Moon from orbit for the film’s opening sequence. Additionally, he had Rick Baker create a working prototype of the lead alien, costing $70,000. So, what happened?

Steven Spielberg’s “Night Skies” was canceled in February 1981 when Columbia Pictures put the project in turnaround. In reality, Spielberg decided to close the door on “Night Skies” to focus intensely on what he knew would become a landmark film in his career: “E.T.”

After becoming almost synonymous with comedies, <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/dwayne-johnson">Dwayne Johnson</a> will come back to the drama genre with “The Smashing Machine,” an upcoming A24 production. It will be the first film written and directed by Benny Safdie as a solo filmmaker.



Alongside his brother Josh, they are known for titles such as “Good Time” (2017), starring <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/robert-pattinson">Robert Pattinson</a>, and “Uncut Gems” (2019), starring Adam Sandler. Both films received positive reviews, as well as their directorial debut “Heaven Knows What” (2014).

It is directed by Coralie Fargeat, known for helming “Revenge,” a 2017 <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/action">action</a> production starring Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz about a young woman seeking revenge on three men who left her for dead in the desert after a brutal assault.



This time, she is joined by Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore as the leads of her upcoming title. The rest of the cast includes performances by Dennis Quaid, Hugo Diego Garcia, Joseph Balderrama, Oscar Lesage, and more.



<h2>When will ‘The Substance’ be released?</h2>



Mubi has just confirmed the release date for “The Substance,” and fortunately for all horror fans, it’s closer than expected. As announced by the entertainment company, it will hit theaters on September 20th.

It is billed as a feminist take on body horror, revolving around a new product called The Substance that promises to transform people into the best version of themselves. Those who have already seen it say it has an unexpected plot twist.



This marks the highly anticipated return of Demi Moore to the big screen after her 2022 role as Olivia in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”. On TV, she recently appeared in Ryan Murphy’s “Feud,” where she portrayed Ann Woodward for eight episodes.
