According to Deadline, Benjamin Bratt confirmed at D23 that he will return as the voice of Ernesto de la Cruz in “Coco 2,” which is scheduled to hit theaters in November 2029. The sequel will also introduce a major change for its protagonist, with Miguel now portrayed as a teenager rather than the 12-year-old audiences followed in the original film.

Miguel Is Growing Up in ‘Coco 2’ as Ernesto de la Cruz Returns

Miguel’s transition into adolescence marks a significant shift for the franchise. In the first movie, he was a young musician desperate to pursue his passion despite his family’s ban on music. His search for answers eventually led him into the Land of the Dead, where he discovered the truth about his supposed idol and uncovered his real connection to Héctor.

Ernesto’s return is important because his story appeared to be over by the end of the original. Miguel discovered that the celebrated singer had murdered Héctor and taken credit for his songs, completely destroying the image he had built around his musical hero. The truth was eventually exposed, while Miguel helped restore Héctor’s place within the family.

Bratt’s comments at D23 indicate that Ernesto still has unfinished business with Miguel. “He’s a little menace who ruined a career and destroyed a legend,” the actor said. He went further when describing what audiences can expect from the returning character. “Ernesto de la Cruz is back for revenge…proving that fate has twists.”

The first “Coco” built its story around Día de Muertos, family, memory and the connection between the living and the dead. The 2017 film became a major success, earning more than $800 million worldwide and winning Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Remember Me.”

The upcoming Pixar sequel will follow Violet and Dash as they attempt to establish themselves as fully capable Supers while their parents remain wary of letting them take on that responsibility. According to Deadline, Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter revealed the first major plot details during D23.

Violet and Dash Are Ready to Become Real Supers

The new story picks up after the return of superheroes to public life in “Incredibles 2.” Winston Deavor is using that change to build a superhero league backed by corporate sponsorship and marketing, creating a very different environment for the Parr family than the one they knew before. The franchise has previously established a world where Supers were forced into hiding by the government, making their renewed public presence a significant change for the series.

Source: IMDb

At the center of “Incredibles 3” are Violet and Dash, who are eager to move beyond simply being the children of Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. Their parents, however, are not convinced they are ready for that step. “They want to prove that they are ready to be a real Supers, and their parents aren’t quite so convinced,” Docter revealed.

That disagreement pushes the siblings into taking matters into their own hands. Violet and Dash begin sneaking out at night to protect the city, creating a new source of conflict within the Parr household. Their secret missions become even harder to manage because Jack-Jack is still struggling to control his increasingly unpredictable abilities.

Bob Parr will also have a major storyline of his own. While the younger members of the family are trying to establish themselves, Bob is dealing with a changing superhero world and questioning his own place in it. “A new threat is taking a heavy toll on Bob, who’s grappling with his own relevance in a world of Supers that may have outgrown him,” Docter said.

The danger facing the Parr family appears to extend far beyond another ordinary supervillain. Docter teased the arrival of “a super villain with more power than all the family put together and all of the supers,” although Edna Mode interrupted before he could reveal more. That leaves the identity and full capabilities of the new antagonist under wraps for now.

The sequel arrives a decade after “Incredibles 2,” which opened in 2018 and became one of Pixar’s biggest box office successes, earning more than $1.2 billion worldwide. “Incredibles 3” is currently scheduled for June 16, 2028, with Peter Sohn directing and Brad Bird writing the screenplay and executive producing.

‘It Follows 2’ Gets a Promising Update as David Robert Mitchell Confirms Filming Is Underway

‘Incredibles 3’ Plot Details Revealed With Violet and Dash at the Center of the Story - Spoiler US

According to ScreenRant, writer and director David Robert Mitchell confirmed that filming has already passed its fourth week, although he remains tight-lipped about what the new chapter has in store.

‘They Follow’ Is Finally Moving Forward

Mitchell offered the update while talking about his latest work “The End of Oak Street,” revealing that production on “They Follow” has been underway for four weeks. While he could “say very little” about the sequel itself, he made clear that the project is progressing and that he is “very excited” for audiences to see it “when it’s ready.”

Source: IMDb

The update is particularly significant after the continuation spent years stuck in development. “They Follow” was first announced in October 2023, with Mitchell returning to write and direct and Maika Monroe reprising her role as Jay Height. The film was originally expected to begin shooting in early 2025, but production was later delayed because of scheduling conflicts.

That wait has been unusually long for a follow-up to a movie that developed such a strong reputation. Released in 2014, “It Follows” starred Monroe as a young woman pursued by a supernatural entity that could take the appearance of different people and relentlessly move toward its target. The picture was praised for its direction, performances, cinematography and distinctive approach to psychological horror.

The original film was also a major success on a relatively modest budget. Made for approximately $1.3 million, “It Follows” earned $23.3 million worldwide and eventually developed a cult following, with critics frequently describing it as one of the defining horror movies of the 2010s.

“They Follow” is expected to continue the story roughly a decade after the events of the first entry. The sequel has also expanded its cast with performers including Naomi Ackie, Justine Lupe, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Gandolfini and Melora Walters, although details about their characters remain undisclosed.

‘It Follows 2’ Gets a Promising Update as David Robert Mitchell Confirms Filming Is Underway - Spoiler US

Crossing the monumental threshold in less than three weeks of theatrical release, the Tom Holland-led superhero blockbuster has comfortably glided past previous pacing records set by Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

With domestic earnings soaring past $704.5 million and showing no signs of stopping, the wall-crawler is now on a direct collision course to claim the ultimate crown: becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time in the United States.

Entering an Ultra-Exclusive Box Office Club

Hitting $700 million on North American soil is one of the rarest feats in Hollywood history. Brand New Day becomes only the seventh film in history to enter the $700M domestic club, joining an elite roster of legendary titans:

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens ($936.6M)

Avengers: Endgame ($858.3M)

Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.8M)

Avatar ($785.2M)

Top Gun: Maverick ($718.7M)

Black Panther ($700.4M)

Spider-Man: Brand New Day ($704.5M+ and counting)

By hitting this milestone faster than any movie before it, Spidey didn’t just beat the competition—he obliterated the timetable.

Can ‘Brand New Day’ Surpass ‘The Force Awakens’ for the #1 Spot?

Industry analysts are now asking the once-unthinkable question: Can Peter Parker overtake Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million) to become the biggest domestic blockbuster in U.S. history?

Tracking indicates the odds are heavily in Sony and Marvel’s favor:

Ahead of Endgame: Brand New Day currently holds a massive lead over Avengers: Endgame at the exact same point in its domestic theatrical run.

Unstoppable Weekdays: The film scored the biggest second Monday and second Tuesday hauls in box office history, demonstrating insane word-of-mouth longevity.

The $1 Billion Domestic Dream: While a $900 million+ North American total is now practically guaranteed, strong legs throughout the remainder of August could push Brand New Day to become the first movie in history to cross $1 billion domestically.

Globally, the film is already an absolute juggernaut, having effortlessly swung past $1.7 billion worldwide to become the highest-grossing movie of 2026.

Why Is ‘Brand New Day’ Resonating So Strongly?

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up four years after the memory-wiping events of 2021’s No Way Home.

Critics and audiences have praised the film as the most mature, grounded, and emotionally resonant entry in Tom Holland’s tenure. Stripped of Stark technology and high-tech safety nets, Peter Parker is back to basics—fighting street-level crime in New York City as a true solo hero while navigating the heartbreak of watching his former friends move on without him.

The addition of fan-favorite co-stars like Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle / Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner / Hulk), and Sadie Sink alongside returning stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon created a must-see theatrical event that has drawn repeat viewings from casual fans and die-hard comic book lovers alike.

As the film continues its historic theatrical run, all eyes remain on the box office charts to see just how high the web-slinger can climb.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Becomes Fastest Film to Cross $700 Million Domestic

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Becomes Fastest Film to Cross $700 Million Domestic - Spoiler US

Directed by Michael Showalter (The Idea of You, The Big Sick) with a screenplay by Nick Antosca, the film stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett in a dark, twisted tale where truth and fiction are dangerously intertwined.

Set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 2, 2026, the trailer offers fans their most detailed—and unsettling—look yet at the secrets hiding inside the Crawford estate. Here is everything revealed in the new footage.

The Plot: A Writing Offer That Becomes a Psychological Trap

The trailer centers on Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling, financially strapped author who is offered the opportunity of a lifetime: ghostwriting the remaining installments of a wildly successful thriller series.

The series’ original creator, renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), has been left unable to write, speak, or walk following a devastating personal tragedy and mysterious accident. At the request of Verity’s grieving husband, Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett), Lowen relocates to the family’s isolated estate to sift through Verity’s research and notes.

However, what begins as a standard writing assignment quickly devolves into a nightmare as Lowen uncovers an unpublished, hidden autobiography left behind by Verity—one filled with bone-chilling confessions about her marriage, her children, and horrifying secret desires.

Anne Hathaway in ‘Verity’ (2026)

Trailer Highlights: Leaning Hard into Gothic Horror

While Hoover’s novel balances romance with psychological tension, the trailer confirms that Showalter’s film adaptation is leaning heavily into claustrophobic horror elements:

Is Verity Really Incapacitated? The footage showcases Lowen growing increasingly paranoid inside the remote house. Several shots reveal low-lit hallways and fleeting glimpses of Verity watching Lowen from upstairs windows or standing unexpectedly in doorways when everyone else is asleep.

Chilling Voiceover: Hathaway’s voice looms large over the trailer, narrating passages from Verity’s autobiographical manuscript: “A writer’s words should be honest and bloody and a little bit terrifying.”

A Tangled Love Triangle: As Lowen reads deeper into the horrific confessions, she finds herself drawn to Jeremy (Hartnett). The trailer highlights the blurring lines between sympathy, attraction, and manipulation as Lowen tries to figure out if Jeremy is an innocent victim or if Verity is actively playing them both.

Key Cast and Creative Team

Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford: Marking a distinctly darker turn in her filmography, Hathaway portrays the enigmatic, unpredictable author whose presence dominates the film even when she isn’t speaking.

Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh: Johnson grounds the film as the surrogate for the audience, capturing the escalating terror and obsession of a woman pulled into a family dynamic she cannot control.

Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford: Continuing his career renaissance, Hartnett plays the grieving husband caught between protecting his family and navigating an instant connection with Lowen.

Supporting Cast: The film also stars Ismael Cruz Córdova (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) and Brady Wagner.

Release Date and Distribution

Unlike many streaming-first adaptations, Verity is receiving a full global theatrical launch. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed internationally by Sony Pictures, Verity hits theaters worldwide on October 2, 2026.

According to Variety, Paramount has scheduled the new movie for June 11, 2027, with Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner leading the cast.

Parker Finn’s ‘Possession’ Remake Is Set for Summer 2027

The upcoming picture comes from Parker Finn, who is writing, directing and producing the new version. Finn is best known for launching the “Smile” franchise, having written and directed the 2022 horror hit and its 2024 sequel.

Qualley and Turner were cast as the central characters, Anna and Mark, in April 2026. The ensemble subsequently expanded with Paul Dano, Diego Calva, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen and Nicholas Alexander Chavez. Filming began in New Jersey in July, with the production now moving toward its scheduled 2027 theatrical release.

The project revisits a flick that has developed a very different reputation over the decades. Żuławski’s original “Possession” follows Mark, an international spy returning to West Berlin, as his marriage to Anna collapses. What initially resembles an intensely volatile relationship drama gradually moves into increasingly surreal and horrific territory, involving infidelity, violence and a mysterious creature.

Released in 1981, the original film initially received a mixed response and struggled commercially, but its reputation changed considerably over time. It eventually developed a cult following and is now regarded as one of the more uncompromising titles associated with psychological and body horror. The movie also earned Isabelle Adjani the Best Actress prize at Cannes for her performance as Anna.

The remake was first announced in 2024, with Robert Pattinson attached as a producer alongside Finn, Roy Lee and their respective production companies. Paramount ultimately acquired the project following a bidding competition involving several major studios and streamers. Pattinson was initially linked to speculation about a starring role, but his involvement remained behind the camera.

The sci-fi survival film, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, is being described as a throwback to the kind of large-scale, family-centered blockbusters that defined the 1980s and 1990s. According to reactions shared on social media following the picture’s world premiere, its combination of dinosaurs, suburban Americana and Spielbergian adventure is already standing out.

‘The End of Oak Street’ Is Bringing Back the Old School Blockbuster

The Spielberg comparisons are particularly prominent in the early reactions. Jonathan Sim called the movie “A Spielbergian ’80s small-town thriller” and described it as “E.T. meets Jurassic Park.” He also praised its mix of genres, calling it a “Perfect combination of family drama, humor, action, and genuine terror” and adding, “Dino delight!”

Source: IMDb

The Amblin comparisons continued throughout the reactions. JuniorFett described “The End of Oak Street” as “a brutal, insanely fun, Amblin-esque thrill ride,” adding that once the dinosaurs appear, “it’s relentless with a Land of the Lost/Twilight Zone twist.” The reaction also singled out Hathaway, praising how the title combines its spectacle with “thrills and heart” while following a family “dealing with pain.”

The film’s visual and musical identity also received attention. The Holo Files wrote that the movie is “imbued with an Amblin / Spielbergian sense of wonder,” pointing to “the 1980s suburban setting,” “the family dynamics” and Michael Giacchino’s “John Williams-inspired score.” The reaction praised “plenty of cool visuals of dinosaurs roaming around suburbia” and said Mitchell creates “some palpably intense set pieces.”

There was at least one significant caveat in that response, which argued that the picture “takes far too long to get going” and suffers from “stuttered pacing.” The family material was also criticized as “uninteresting” and “underdeveloped.” Still, the reaction concluded that “there’s still a lot of fun to be had here,” despite believing the picture could have made better use of its premise and cast.

The more enthusiastic reactions emphasized the intensity of the experience. Chrisagwrites said the production “will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end,” calling it “Very Amblin-esque” while praising Mitchell for pushing the concept “to the extreme.” The film was described as “intense, thrilling, and proudly absurd,” but also as a movie that “has heart and it SHOWS.” With its August 14 theatrical release approaching, those early reactions are giving the dinosaur adventure a promising start.

While casual viewers might assume the date was picked at random, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures embedded a genius Easter egg into MCU canon. In Spider-Man: Far From Home, sharp-eyed fans caught a glimpse of Peter’s passport, which clearly displayed his date of birth as “10 AUG”. The date is a direct, loving homage to August 10, 1962—the day comic legends Stan Lee and Steve Ditko introduced Spider-Man to the world in Amazing Fantasy #15.

From Queens Kid to Multiversal Legend

When Tom Holland made his web-slinging debut in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, he brought a fresh, authentically youthful energy to the iconic hero. Recruited right out of his Queens apartment by Tony Stark, Peter’s journey quickly exploded far beyond local street-level crime-fighting:

Homecoming (2017): Proving he was more than just his stark-tech suit, Peter stopped the Vulture while trying to pass high school Spanish.

Infinity War & Endgame (2018–2019): Traveling into deep space to fight Thanos alongside the Avengers, experiencing the tragic toll of the Blip, and coming back to defend Earth.

Far From Home (2019): Trying to cope with the loss of his mentor while battling Mysterio across Europe.

The Ultimate Sacrifice: A Hero Defined by Heart

The true defining moment for Holland’s Spider-Man arrived in 2021’s smash-hit Spider-Man: No Way Home. Faced with a collapsing multiverse, Peter made the ultimate selfless choice: allowing Doctor Strange to cast a spell that erased all memory of “Peter Parker” from the world—including his best friend Ned, his girlfriend MJ, and his fellow Avengers.

The film ended with a tragic yet triumphant turning point. Stripped of Stark technology, team support, and personal ties, Peter moved into a tiny apartment, pulled out a sewing machine to create a classic comic-accurate suit, and swung back into the snowy New York night as a truly independent hero.

Why Tom Holland’s Web-Slinger Endures

Holland’s ability to combine high-flying acrobatic physical theater with raw, heartbreaking vulnerability turned his Spider-Man into a generational favorite. He captured the core truth that makes Spider-Man the world’s most relatable superhero: no matter how heavy the weight on his shoulders, Peter Parker always finds the strength to stand back up.

As fans eagerly await his next chapter in the MCU, August 10 remains a special moment to celebrate the kid from Queens who showed the world what it truly means to be a hero. Happy Birthday, Peter!

King is also co-writing the film with Steven Levenson and Simon Farnaby. Now, Farnaby has offered a new detail about the story, revealing that the movie will draw from the Nordic mythology behind Labubu and the other creatures.

The Labubu Movie Will Explore the Creatures’ Nordic Mythology

In a conversation with Variety, Farnaby explained that Labubu creator Kasing Lung presented the filmmakers with a backstory exploring where the creatures came from. According to Farnaby, that history is rooted in Nordic mythology and gave the writers an unexpectedly rich foundation for the movie. He said the team saw the potential for a story that could be both emotionally engaging and visually suited to the world of Labubu.

Source: Kevin Frayer/Getty Images

That mythology is part of Labubu’s original identity. Lung created the character as part of “The Monsters,” a series influenced by the Nordic folklore and mythology he encountered during his childhood. Labubu and the other creatures were conceived as mischievous, elf-like figures, with their unusual appearances helping distinguish them from more traditional fantasy characters.

The movie will expand that foundation into a feature-length story. Rather than simply placing the popular plush character into a conventional live-action setting, the filmmakers appear to be interested in exploring the fictional world that existed behind the designs. The combination of live action and CGI will allow the creatures to interact with a human world while retaining the distinctive look associated with Lung’s creations.

King’s involvement also gives the project a filmmaker with experience turning whimsical characters and their origins into major studio productions. He directed both “Paddington” movies before making “Wonka.”

The live-action movie is now targeting the first half of 2027 for production, putting the project on a more concrete timeline after years of development.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Destin Daniel Cretton is now turning his attention back to the Lionsgate adaptation after releasing “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Cretton has been attached to the “Naruto” project since before taking on the Marvel film, and he is set to write and direct the title.

Destin Daniel Cretton Is Returning to the ‘Naruto’ Movie

Cretton’s involvement gives the adaptation a director with recent experience handling a major comic book property. His latest picture, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” became a major theatrical success following its July 31 release, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon and others.

Source: Ethan Miller/Getty Images

The filmmaker previously directed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” making “Naruto” his next major franchise project after working within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His move from one established property to another also places him at the center of a particularly high-profile adaptation, given the worldwide popularity of Masashi Kishimoto‘s manga.

The “Naruto” movie is being developed by Lionsgate, with Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Kishimoto attached as producers. Cretton has also worked directly with Kishimoto on the project, traveling to Tokyo to meet the manga creator and secure his blessing for the adaptation.

The project has also reached the casting stage. A worldwide search is underway for young actors between the ages of 16 and 20 to potentially play Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, the members of Team 7 at the center of the story’s early chapters.

That narrative has now shifted after Farnaby publicly clarified his remarks, insisting that “Wonka 2” is still moving forward and that the earlier reporting had been misunderstood. The original Wonka became one of 2023’s biggest theatrical successes, earning more than $634 million worldwide and launching plans for a follow-up.

Simon Farnaby Says ‘Wonka 2’ Remains on Track Despite Recent Confusion

After reports circulated suggesting the sequel had stalled indefinitely, Farnaby addressed fans directly on X to explain that his interview comments had been taken “a little out of context.” He stressed that he “100% did not say Wonka 2 wasn’t happening,” adding that a second film “was always the plan.”

The writer also sought to reassure audiences that the project continues to have the studio’s backing. “Everyone is working really hard on it. WB are committed,” he wrote, revealing that he and director Paul King already have “a great script.”

Farnaby also addressed the question many fans were asking about the film’s star. “Timmy wants to do it,” he said, making clear that Chalamet’s interest has never been the obstacle. Instead, he explained that the team is focused on coordinating schedules while ensuring the sequel reaches the same creative standard as the first picture before cameras roll.

He closed the statement with an apology for the misunderstanding, writing, “Very sorry for any confusion!” His clarification reinforces that “Wonka 2” remains in development rather than canceled or abandoned, even if audiences may have to wait longer before the next chapter of Willy Wonka’s story reaches theaters.

‘Michael’ Sequel Eyes Late 2027 Release as Filming Nears

‘Wonka 2’ Gets a Major Update as Writer Shuts Down Delay Rumors - Spoiler US

The next chapter of Michael Jackson’s story is already taking shape. Following the strong theatrical run of Michael, Lionsgate is preparing to expand the biopic into a two-part saga, with the sequel expected to begin filming by the end of 2026 or in early 2027.

Studio executives are targeting a theatrical release in late 2027 or early 2028, signaling an accelerated production schedule for one of the year’s biggest music franchises. Unlike the first film, which concludes during the Bad era, the sequel is expected to explore the later stages of the King of Pop’s life and career.

Where will the ‘Michael’ sequel fit in Michael Jackson’s story?

The Michael sequel is expected to continue Michael Jackson’s story from the late 1980s onward, picking up after the first film’s ending during the Bad era and exploring the later stages of his career, personal life, and musical legacy.

The original biopic focused on Jackson’s rise from his childhood with the Jackson 5 through his transformation into a global superstar, closing around the 1987–1988 Bad World Tour. The first movie intentionally left a significant portion of Jackson’s life untouched.

After covering milestones such as the success of Off the Wall, Thriller and the beginning of the Bad era, the sequel could move into some of the most defining moments of his career, including the Dangerous and HIStory periods, his evolution as a performer, and the massive tours that cemented his status as one of music’s biggest figures.

Lionsgate executives have indicated that there is still a large amount of Jackson’s story and music catalog that was not included in the first installment.

Jaafar Jackson in Michael (Source: IMDb)

However, the sequel may not follow a completely linear path. Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson suggested that the follow-up could move “forwards and backwards” through Jackson’s timeline, allowing the film to revisit moments that were skipped in the original while also continuing into later chapters of his life.

That approach would give filmmakers more flexibility to include important events that did not fit into the first movie’s timeframe. One of the biggest challenges for Michael 2 will be balancing Jackson’s artistic achievements with the more complicated parts of his public life.

The first film faced controversy over the events it chose to include or leave out, particularly regarding allegations that emerged in the 1990s. A sequel covering that period would have to navigate those issues while portraying the impact they had on Jackson’s career, reputation and personal life.

From a musical perspective, the sequel has plenty of iconic material to explore. Songs, performances and eras that were not featured prominently in the first movie could become central elements, with Lionsgate teasing that some of Jackson’s most recognizable music moments remain available for the follow-up.

Franchises built to last for decades rarely change direction quietly, yet the next chapter of Jurassic World Rebirth is already undergoing a major creative shakeup. Director Gareth Edwards has exited the upcoming sequel over reported creative differences with Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment.

The departure comes while the project is still in development, with screenwriter David Koepp remaining attached and stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali still expected to return. Universal has praised Edwards’ work on the movie but is now searching for a new filmmaker.

Why did Gareth Edwards leave the next Jurassic World Rebirth movie?

Gareth Edwards left the next Jurassic World Rebirth movie because of creative differences with Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. While the studios have not disclosed the specific issues that led to the split, multiple industry outlets report that Edwards and the filmmakers behind the franchise could not align on the project’s creative direction.

The departure is particularly notable because he had been expected to continue the new storyline introduced in Jurassic World Rebirth. The sequel remains in active development, with David Koepp still attached as the screenwriter and the main cast—including Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali—still expected to return once a new director is hired.

Universal acknowledged Edwards’ contributions in a statement, thanking him for his work on the franchise while confirming the search for his replacement is underway. Although “creative differences” is a common explanation in Hollywood, no further details have been made public.

Reports indicate that the disagreement centered on the overall vision for the sequel rather than scheduling conflicts or budget concerns. Edwards is now expected to shift his focus back to original projects after several years directing major studio blockbusters.

Ironically, this is not the first time the franchise has lost a director over creative disagreements. Before Edwards joined Jurassic World Rebirth, filmmaker David Leitch also exited the project during early development because of differences over the creative direction, highlighting how tightly controlled the Jurassic series remains under Universal and executive producer Steven Spielberg.

Despite the unexpected change behind the camera, the sequel itself has not been canceled. Universal is continuing development and intends to move forward with the next installment, making the selection of a new director the studio’s immediate priority as it looks to build on the foundation established by Jurassic World Rebirth.

As speculation intensified over the lengthy development of “The Batman: Part II,” some fans theorized that director Matt Reeves was secretly filming the second and third installments of his planned trilogy at the same time. Gunn has now made it clear that is not the case.

James Gunn Shuts Down Speculation About Two Batman Sequels Filming Together

The rumor gained traction online as “The Batman: Part II” spent years in development, with repeated release date changes prompting fans to search for an explanation. One of the most popular theories suggested Reeves was preparing an ambitious back-to-back production for the second and third films. That speculation reached Gunn on Threads, where a fan asked him whether the reports were true. His response left little room for interpretation: “I can deny.”

The sequel is now in production in London after an extended writing process that Reeves has previously described as deliberate, with the filmmaker choosing to refine the screenplay before cameras rolled.

The upcoming picture brings Robert Pattinson back as Bruce Wayne alongside returning cast members Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell. New additions include Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Sebastian Koch and Brian Tyree Henry. Set after the events of the first film and Gotham City’s devastating flood, the story will once again follow Batman as he investigates another mystery tied to the city’s corruption.

Released in 2022, “The Batman” introduced Pattinson’s version of the Dark Knight during his second year as Gotham’s vigilante, blending detective noir with a conspiracy centered on the Riddler. The movie earned strong reviews and more than $772 million worldwide, laying the foundation for what Reeves has envisioned as a standalone Batman trilogy. “The Batman: Part II” is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on Feb. 18, 2028, with a third installment planned to conclude the saga.

The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has officially given its green light to Paramount Skydance’s proposed $110.9 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. According to reports from Deadline, the decision clears the way for the historic takeover across key international markets, handing David Ellison’s Paramount Skydance a crucial victory as it seeks to create an unprecedented entertainment juggernaut.

Here is a breakdown of what the UK approval means, where the deal currently stands, and how it will transform the landscape for moviegoers, streaming subscribers, and the film industry at large.

Another Major Regulatory Barrier Falls Globally

The CMA’s approval represents a major international milestone for Paramount. The UK regulator’s phase-one clearance follows earlier approvals from the U.S. Department of Justice in June and the European Commission in July (the latter granted with specific conditions regarding European theatrical distribution).

With three of the world’s most influential antitrust bodies approving the merger, Paramount has successfully passed the vast majority of its international regulatory hurdles, confirming that competition watchdogs abroad do not view the mega-merger as a breach of anti-monopoly laws.

The Final Sticking Point: U.S. State-Level Lawsuits

While international regulators are giving the merger the thumbs up, the acquisition remains far from a done deal in the United States.

A coalition of twelve U.S. state attorneys general—led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta—alongside the Writers Guild of America (WGA), filed antitrust lawsuits to freeze the transaction. Opponents argue that combining the two legacy studios will hurt local economies, drive down writer wages, and inflate consumer prices.

A California federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order, pushing the potential closing timeline back while setting a trial date for early 2027. Paramount currently faces a deadline to resolve these state-level legal challenges, backed by steep quarterly “ticking fees” payable to Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders if the closing is delayed into 2027.

Hollywood’s “Big Five” Shrinks to the “Big Four”

If the acquisition survives its remaining U.S. legal challenges, the structural overhaul of the entertainment industry will be seismic. The merger would reduce Hollywood’s traditional major film studios from five—Disney, Universal, Warner Bros., Sony, and Paramount—down to four.

Estimates indicate that a combined Paramount-WBD entity would command roughly 27% of the domestic wide-release theatrical box office. That places the new studio on equal, if not superior, footing with Walt Disney Pictures, forever altering how films are greenlit, marketed, and distributed to theaters.

A Single Franchise Super-Hub: IP and Streaming Integration

From an audience perspective, the combination brings a dizzying array of global pop-culture franchises under one roof:

Film & Television IP: The DC Universe, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, and Dune would share a corporate home with Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, Transformers, Top Gun, and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Streaming Consolidation: The merger paves the way for a single direct-to-consumer platform uniting Max (HBO) and Paramount+. A combined service would immediately challenge Netflix and Disney+ for global subscriber dominance.

What It Means for Theater Owners and Hollywood Talent

While corporate executives celebrate the UK clearance, creative guilds and theater chains remain cautious. Theater owners worry that consolidating two major studios under one banner could lead to fewer total theatrical releases per year, as executives seek cost synergies by streamlining production slates.

Similarly, unions like SAG-AFTRA and the WGA have voiced concern that fewer operating studios mean fewer buyers for original screenplays and pitches, reducing competition for creative talent.

For now, the UK’s clearance gives Paramount Skydance vital momentum. All eyes now turn to the California federal courtroom, where the ultimate fate of this $111 billion titan will be decided.
