The sequel remains in active development, with David Koepp still attached as the screenwriter and the main cast—including Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali—still expected to return once a new director is hired.
Universal acknowledged Edwards’ contributions in a statement, thanking him for his work on the franchise while confirming the search for his replacement is underway. Although “creative differences” is a common explanation in Hollywood, no further details have been made public.

Before Edwards joined Jurassic World Rebirth, filmmaker David Leitch also exited the project during early development because of differences over the creative direction, highlighting how tightly controlled the Jurassic series remains under Universal and executive producer Steven Spielberg.
Despite the unexpected change behind the camera, the sequel itself has not been canceled. Universal is continuing development and intends to move forward with the next installment, making the selection of a new director the studio’s immediate priority as it looks to build on the foundation established by Jurassic World Rebirth.
