After navigating blockbuster superhero franchises, arthouse horror, and sci-fi epics, the actor is taking on one of the most intriguing and morally complex roles of his career.

Partnering with indie powerhouse studio A24, Pattinson stars in Primetime, an upcoming psychological crime drama inspired by the controversial 2000s television phenomenon To Catch a Predator.

With an acclaimed creative team, a star-studded cast, and a major fall release strategy, Primetime is positioning itself as one of the most talked-about films of the year. Here is everything you need to know about Pattinson’s latest cinematic challenge.

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1920" height="1080" src="https://media.bolavip.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/29/2026/08/06120450/a-4-1-1920x1080.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-99850"><figcaption>Robert Pattinson in ‘Primetime’ / IMDb</figcaption></figure>

<h2>The Premise: The Wild Origins of Tabloid True Crime</h2>

Directed by documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim (Ren Faire) in his narrative feature debut, Primetime is set in 2006 during the golden era of broadcast news sensationalism.

The film explores the creation and explosive rise of To Catch a Predator, the notorious Dateline NBC hidden-camera sting operation. The program used online decoys posing as minors, hidden camera rigs, and local law enforcement partnerships to confront and arrest men arriving at sting houses expecting to meet underage children.

Rather than a simple true-crime procedural, Primetime dives deep into the ethically murky intersection of tabloid journalism, vigilante media culture, and the relentless pursuit of high television ratings.

<h2>Pattinson’s Transformation as Chris Hansen</h2>

Pattinson steps into the central role of real-life news correspondent Chris Hansen. Beyond starring in the lead role, Pattinson also serves as a producer on the feature through his Icki Eneo Arlo production banner.

Early footage and teasers showcase Pattinson’s unnervingly precise embodiment of Hansen’s measured delivery, deep baritone voice, and signature, calm interrogation style (“Why don’t you have a seat right over there?”). The film charts Hansen’s personal and professional journey as he transforms from an ambitious network journalist into an iconic, inescapable pop-culture figure.

<h2>A Loaded Ensemble Cast and Behind-the-Scenes Vision</h2>

The film features a screenplay written by Ajon Singh and is backed by a powerhouse group of producers, including horror maestro Ari Aster (Midsommar, Hereditary), Lars Knudsen, Fred Berger, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones.

Joining Pattinson on screen is a diverse, high-caliber ensemble cast:

<ul><li>Merritt Wever as Hansen’s hard-nosed Dateline television producer.</li><li>Skyler Gisondo as Dan Plumb, an aspiring young actor hired to work as an undercover decoy during the sting operations.</li><li>Anna Faris as Mary Joan Hansen, Chris’s wife navigating the fallout of her husband’s sudden infamy.</li><li>Phoebe Bridgers, Bokeem Woodbine, Matthew Maher, Jonathan Lipnicki, Tony Revolori, and Sean Bridgers in key supporting roles.</li><li>Former NBC executive Jeff Zucker appearing as himself.</li></ul>

<h2>Venice World Premiere and Release Date</h2>

A24 is giving Primetime a massive festival push ahead of its theatrical debut. The film will hold its world premiere in main competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in early September 2026, competing for the prestigious Golden Lion.

Following its festival run, A24 will release Primetime in theaters nationwide on September 25, 2026. With its sharp commentary on media ethics, intense performances, and A24’s signature style, the thriller is poised to be a major player in the fall awards season conversation.

According to Variety, the company’s latest earnings call offered one of the first official updates on “Man of Tomorrow,” James Gunn’s upcoming sequel, with CEO David Zaslav revealing that he recently got an early glimpse of material from the film while outlining the studio’s broader roadmap for the DC Universe.

<h2>James Gunn’s ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Gets an Early Vote of Confidence</h2>

While discussing Warner Bros. Discovery’s upcoming slate, Zaslav shared that he had recently seen images from “Man of Tomorrow,” the sequel to 2025’s “Superman,” and left little doubt about his enthusiasm. “I saw some pictures yesterday that looked amazing,” he said, adding that the project “looks fantastic” and that the company is “super excited about it.”

The executive also highlighted Gunn’s commitment to the production, noting that the filmmaker spent his birthday on set and has been putting in exceptionally long days to keep the movie moving toward its scheduled July 9, 2027 release. The sequel follows a successful relaunch of the iconic hero, as “Superman” introduced David Corenswet‘s Man of Steel and launched the DC Universe’s first chapter. The title grossed more than $618 million worldwide and received largely positive reviews from critics.

Zaslav’s comments extended beyond Superman, offering reassurance that other high-profile DC projects continue to move forward. He confirmed that Matt Reeves is still “working very hard on Batman,” referencing the long-awaited sequel to “The Batman,” while also pointing to “Clayface” and HBO’s “Lanterns” as key pieces of the studio’s expanding lineup.

Taken together, the update paints a picture of a studio eager to emphasize momentum after the successful launch of its new cinematic universe. “DC feels very good, and we have a robust pipeline,” Zaslav said, crediting Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran for steering the franchise’s next phase as multiple films and series continue to take shape.

According to IMDb trivia, director Penelope Spheeris introduced a daily tradition during production by hugging each child actor before filming began, hoping to create a sense of trust and closeness among the young cast.

<h2>Penelope Spheeris Had a Heartwarming Ritual Before Every Day of Filming</h2>

The approach reflected the director’s belief that creating the right atmosphere off camera was just as important as what audiences would eventually see on screen. Spheeris later acknowledged that directing such a young cast was the biggest challenge of making the film, since many of the actors were still learning how to deliver dialogue naturally and stay focused throughout long shooting days.

Despite those challenges, the experience became one of the highlights of the production for the filmmaker. Spheeris recalled that the joy she got from working alongside the children was “unbelievable,” a sentiment that matched the playful energy that ultimately defined the finished movie.

Released on August 5, 1994, “The Little Rascals” reimagined the classic “Our Gang” comedy shorts for a new generation. Starring Bug Hall, Travis Tedford, Brittany Ashton Holmes and Ross Bagley alongside a cast of young newcomers, the family comedy followed the adventures of the He-Man Woman Haters Club as friendship, first crushes and a go-kart race turned their world upside down.

The film earned more than $67 million worldwide and has remained a nostalgic favorite for generations of viewers thanks to its memorable characters, quotable moments and enduring charm.

When directors Joel and Ethan Coen were preparing their adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s West Texas crime novel, Spanish star Javier Bardem was always their primary choice for Chigurh. However, as pre-production approached, Bardem hit severe scheduling conflicts with concurrent feature commitments, making it uncertain whether he could join the project.

Unwilling to halt their timeline, the Coen brothers began searching for a backup actor capable of carrying Chigurh’s cold, unstoppable intensity. After watching Strong’s vastly different performances in Syriana and Oliver Twist, the filmmakers were captivated by his physical adaptability and put him on high alert.

As Strong revealed in subsequent interviews, he received a phone call informing him that Bardem’s availability had fallen through, placing him on the verge of stepping into the production. For several days, the actor was preparing to fly out and collaborate with the legendary directors.

<h2>“I Would Kneel on Broken Glass”: The Aftermath of an Iconic Role</h2>

At the final hour, Bardem’s production conflicts were resolved, allowing him to take the part and ultimately earn an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his unforgettable work.

Reflecting on the near-miss years later, Strong expressed nothing but admiration for the project, famously telling the press: “I would kneel on broken glass to work with [the Coen brothers]”.

While cinema history landed precisely where it belonged, the thought of Mark Strong bringing his own quiet, calculated menace to the desert landscape remains one of Hollywood’s most fascinating hypothetical performances.

During a red carpet interview, screenwriter Zak Penn confirmed to The Direct that he remains at work on the sequel, offering the clearest sign in years that Warner Bros. has not abandoned its return to the OASIS.

<h2>‘Ready Player Two’ Is Still Moving Forward Behind the Scenes</h2>

For fans wondering whether the sequel had quietly faded into development limbo, Penn offered a straightforward update. Asked about the status of the project, the writer replied simply, “I am working on it.” While brief, the comment confirms that the follow-up to Steven Spielberg’s 2018 sci-fi adventure continues to advance behind the scenes.

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped">

Penn co-wrote “Ready Player One” alongside author Ernest Cline, adapting the bestselling novel into a film directed by Spielberg. The movie became a global box office success, earning more than $607 million worldwide and receiving praise for its ambitious visual effects and pop culture-driven worldbuilding.

The sequel draws from Cline’s 2020 novel “Ready Player Two,” which revisits Wade Watts after he inherits control of the OASIS and discovers a powerful new technology capable of reshaping both the virtual and real worlds. Cline revealed shortly after the book’s release that discussions with Warner Bros. had begun, later describing the adaptation as being in its “early stages” while Hollywood navigated the uncertainty of the pandemic.

Spielberg has also clarified his role in the next chapter. Rather than returning to the director’s chair, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has said he plans to produce the sequel, leaving the search for a new director open while keeping the franchise connected to its original creative team.

Although Warner Bros. has yet to announce a production schedule, release date, or returning cast, Penn’s latest update suggests the project remains active. For a sequel that has spent years generating speculation with little tangible progress, confirmation that the screenplay is still being developed may be the strongest indication yet that audiences have not seen the last of the OASIS.

The project was unveiled at the National Eisteddfod through a partnership with Welsh broadcaster S4C and Creative Wales, with the dubbed version set to premiere on Christmas Day across S4C’s platforms.

<h2>A Landmark Release Celebrates Both ‘Star Wars’ and the Welsh Language</h2>

The new adaptation assembles a cast of prominent Welsh performers to reinterpret some of the saga’s most recognizable characters. Matthew Rhys will voice Han Solo, while Rhys Ifans takes on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Aimee-Ffion Edwards has been cast as Princess Leia, Osian Morgan will portray Luke Skywalker, and Mark Lewis Jones will lend his voice to Darth Vader. Jones is already familiar to longtime fans after appearing as Captain Moden Canady in “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.”

The Welsh-language edition, titled “Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd,” is helmed by Ellyn Stern and produced by Michael Kohn, Lucasfilm’s director of distribution operations. Executives said the initiative is intended to support the visibility of the Welsh language while giving audiences an opportunity to experience one of cinema’s defining stories in their native tongue.

The project also arrives as the original picture prepares to mark a major milestone. Released in 1977, George Lucas’ space adventure transformed the film industry with its groundbreaking visual effects, introduced audiences to characters such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Darth Vader, and became one of the most influential blockbusters in movie history. The film’s enduring success launched a multimedia franchise that continues to expand nearly five decades later.

When Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hit theaters in 2019, Sony Pictures enjoyed critical acclaim, ten Oscar nominations, and a $377 million global box office haul. Naturally, the studio was eager to stay in business with the iconic auteur for his next venture—a standalone sequel centered on Brad Pitt’s Oscar-winning stuntman, Cliff Booth.

However, the project—now titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth—ultimately wound up in the hands of streaming giant Netflix.

In a candid interview with Variety, Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman opened up about the studio’s disappointment over losing the high-profile feature, revealing the chain of events that led to the project migrating away from Sony.

<h2>Why ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’ Moved to Netflix</h2>

According to Rothman, Sony was fully prepared to produce and distribute the film when Tarantino was slated to sit in the director’s chair. However, after Tarantino decided to step back from directing the script himself, he placed a strict condition on who could take over the reins: David Fincher.

Because Fincher operates under an exclusive long-term feature deal with Netflix, Sony was forced to step aside.

“David Fincher is exclusive to Netflix. We were going to make the movie when Quentin [Tarantino] was directing it, but he decided that he didn’t want to do it and changed course,” Rothman told Variety. “The only other person that he was comfortable directing his script was David Fincher, and David Fincher was exclusive to Netflix, so we were not going to stand in anybody’s way.”

Rothman admitted that Sony was disappointed to lose out on distributing the film, but recognized that standing in the way would have meant stopping the movie from being made altogether.

<h2>A Historic Tarantino-Fincher-Pitt Collaboration</h2>

While Sony may be mourning the loss of theatrical distribution rights, cinema fans are getting an unprecedented meeting of creative minds.

The Adventures of Cliff Booth marks the first time David Fincher will direct a screenplay written by Quentin Tarantino. It also serves as a high-stakes reunion between Fincher and Brad Pitt, who previously collaborated on modern classics like Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

<h3>Key Details About the Upcoming Film:</h3>

<ul><li>The Premise: Set in 1977 Los Angeles—eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood—the film follows former stuntman Cliff Booth as he navigates the gritty underbelly of Hollywood as an industry “studio fixer.”</li><li>The Cast: Alongside Brad Pitt returning as Booth, the star-studded ensemble includes Timothy Olyphant, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Holt McCallany.</li><li>The Budget: Clocking in at a reported $200 million, the project stands as the most expensive film in the careers of both Tarantino and Fincher.</li></ul>

<h2>When Can Audiences Watch It?</h2>

Despite ending up at a streaming platform, The Adventures of Cliff Booth won’t skip the big screen entirely.

Netflix has partnered with IMAX for a rare two-week exclusive theatrical run beginning November 25, 2026, giving fans the chance to experience the Tarantino-penned, Fincher-directed spectacle on premium large format screens before it begins streaming globally on Netflix on December 23, 2026.

Released on August 3, 2001, Walt Disney Pictures’ The Princess Diaries—directed by the legendary Garry Marshall—became a smash hit at the box office and an immediate pop-culture touchstone. Quarter of a century later, the coming-of-age comedy remains one of the ultimate comfort watches in modern cinema.

Beyond the foot-popping romance, the mustard-and-M&amp;M pizza slices, and the iconic makeover scene, the film’s enduring legacy rests on the magnetic dynamic between its two leads. It was a cinematic magic trick that fundamentally altered the trajectory of Anne Hathaway’s life while introducing living legend Dame Julie Andrews to an entirely new generation of young fans.

<h2>The Big-Screen Debut That Launched Anne Hathaway into Superstardom</h2>

Before she was an Academy Award winner, a red-carpet fashion icon, and one of Hollywood’s most sought-after leading ladies, Anne Hathaway was an unknown 18-year-old actor auditioning for her very first feature film role.

Hathaway beat out thousands of young actresses for the role of Mia Thermopolis—legend has it she accidentally fell off her chair during her audition, proving her natural knack for physical slapstick.

Playing Mia required a delicate balance:

<ul><li>Relatability: She had to embody the awkward, invisible anxiety of being a high school outsider.</li><li>Comedic Precision: She held her own through chaotic physical gags, from tumbling on bleachers to fumbling state dinners.</li><li>Elegance Under Pressure: She had to believably evolve into royal heir Mia, grounding the film’s fairy-tale fantasy with genuine heart.</li></ul>

Holding her own opposite Dame Julie Andrews on her very first film set was no small feat, yet Hathaway delivered a performance that critics hailed as star-making. Overnight, The Princess Diaries turned Hathaway into a household name, establishing her as a bankable Hollywood lead and paving the way for a career that now spans iconic blockbusters.

<h2>Bringing Royalty Back: How Julie Andrews Captured a New Generation</h2>

By the late 1990s, Dame Julie Andrews was already musical theater and cinematic royalty thanks to her immortal roles in Mary Poppins (1964) and The Sound of Music (1965). However, after undergoing a tragic vocal cord surgery in 1997 that limited her singing ability, Andrews was largely semi-retired from film acting.

Enter Garry Marshall, who personally approached Andrews to play Queen Clarisse Renaldi. It marked her first Walt Disney Pictures feature film in 37 years.

While older generations knew Andrews as the magical nanny or Maria von Trapp, The Princess Diaries introduced her regal warmth, sharp wit, and effortless grace to millions of Gen Z and Millennial kids who had never seen her on the big screen in real time.

As Queen Clarisse, Andrews didn’t play a stuffy monarch; she played a grandmother who genuinely loved her granddaughter, famously eating corn dogs at a San Francisco arcade and driving a vintage mustang. The role sparked a massive second-act renaissance for Andrews’ film career, leading directly to her beloved voice work in the Shrek franchise and Despicable Me.

<h2>A Oneness in Royalty: On-Screen Mentorship Turned Off-Screen Bond</h2>

Part of what makes The Princess Diaries hold up so brilliantly 25 years later is the genuine affection radiating between its lead stars. Off-camera, Andrews naturally took on a mentor role for the young Hathaway during her very first studio production.

“Julie was so generous, so kind, and so protective on set,” Hathaway has frequently reflected when looking back at her career origins. “To have your very first movie experience be alongside Julie Andrews setting the tone for how to treat a crew and how to conduct yourself with grace—it was the greatest gift I could have received.”

Director Garry Marshall fostered an environment built on improvisation and warmth, encouraging the two to build real chemistry. Whether they were sipping tea during royal protocol lessons or sharing quiet moments about the weight of expectations, the real-life mutual admiration between the Hollywood newcomer and the grand dame gave the film its timeless soul.

As fans continue to await new chapters in the Genovian universe, one thing remains crystal clear: 25 years later, the sparkle of Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews hasn’t dimmed a bit.

How 'The Princess Diaries' Transformed Anne Hathaway’s Life and Reintroduced Julie Andrews to a New Generation - Spoiler US

Fast forward 25 years to the day, and Disney’s The Princess Diaries remains an untouchable, multi-generational comfort classic. Directed by the late Garry Marshall, the film didn’t just give audiences foot-popping romance and iconic quotes—it officially launched Anne Hathaway into global superstardom as Mia Thermopolis alongside the legendary Dame Julie Andrews.

As fans celebrate a quarter-century of Genovian royalty, foot-massagers, and peerless Y2K nostalgia, one major question lingers over the fandom: When are we finally getting The Princess Diaries 3?

While Disney has officially greenlit the project, recent news regarding Queen Mia herself means fans will have to exercise a bit more royal patience than originally expected.

<h2>A Royal Pause: Anne Hathaway’s Pregnancy Announcement</h2>

While creative development on The Princess Diaries 3 has been making steady progress, the production timeline has officially shifted following a joyous personal milestone: Anne Hathaway is expecting her third child.

In June 2026, the 43-year-old Oscar winner took to Instagram to reveal her pregnancy bump with husband Adam Shulman. Between navigating a mammoth 2026 promotional run for blockbuster projects like The Odyssey and The Devil Wears Prada 2, Hathaway is now preparing to expand her family.

Naturally, welcoming a newborn means camera dates for The Princess Diaries 3 will be pushed back to allow Hathaway well-deserved time for maternity leave and her growing family before donning the crown once more.

<h2>Where Does ‘The Princess Diaries 3’ Script Stand?</h2>

The delay isn’t all bad news—in fact, the creative engine behind the scenes is stronger than ever.

Director Adele Lim (Joy Ride, Raya and the Last Dragon) is attached to direct from a script by Flora Greeson, with Hathaway serving as both star and producer. Just prior to her pregnancy announcement, Hathaway revealed during press appearances that the team recently achieved a crucial “story breakthrough” after reworking the concept:

“We had a story breakthrough, and we are moving in the right direction,” Hathaway shared. “We kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one.”

<h2>When Will the Film Hit Theaters?</h2>

With Hathaway taking time off for her third child and the script undergoing its final polishes, pre-production will likely not begin until mid-to-late 2027.

<ul><li>Filming Window: Expected late 2027 or early 2028.</li><li>Projected Release Date: Realistically, The Princess Diaries 3 is aiming for a late 2028 theatrical release.</li></ul>

<h2>Who Is Returning to Genovia?</h2>

While plot details remain locked inside the royal vault, key updates include:

<ul><li>Anne Hathaway (Mia Thermopolis): Confirmed to lead the film as a mature Queen Mia balancing royal duties with new chapters of motherhood—a storyline that may mirror Hathaway’s real-life family expansion.</li><li>Chris Pine (Lord Nicholas Devereaux): Pine has repeatedly signaled his willingness to return as Mia’s swoon-worthy love interest, provided the story honors Garry Marshall’s original legacy.</li><li>Dame Julie Andrews (Queen Clarisse): While Andrews has previously noted the difficulty of doing a sequel without Garry Marshall, fans are keeping their fingers crossed for at least a regal cameo or voiceover.</li></ul>

<h2>Worth the Wait</h2>

While waiting until 2028 for a third installment might feel daunting, Princess Diaries fans know that good things take time. We toast 25 years of mustard-and-M&amp;M pizza slices, foot pops, and Genovian pride today.

In an interview with The Grape Juice.net, Holland made it clear that the film’s highest stakes aren’t rooted solely in superpowers or masked threats. Instead, the movie’s emotional pulse lies in something far more human: overcoming loneliness, rebuilding community, and finding the courage to reach out when you’re at your lowest.

<h2>The Ultimate Power: Asking for Help</h2>

Speaking about the takeaway message he hopes fans carry out of the theater, the 30-year-old actor reflected on the real-world vulnerability embedded within Peter Parker’s journey this time around.

“You’re never truly alone,” Holland shared. “Sometimes in life the bravest thing you can do is ask for help.”

For a character who has historically carried the weight of the world on his own shoulders—motivated by grief and responsibility—learning to accept help is perhaps the most difficult hurdle Peter has ever faced.

Holland elaborated on how even those living by themselves in a sprawling, overwhelming metropolis can unexpectedly find friendship, love, or their proverbial “partner in crime,” provided they don’t lock themselves away from the world.

<h2>From Total Isolation to Finding Community</h2>

This thematic focus is especially poignant considering where Brand New Day picks up Peter’s story. Following the heartbreaking conclusion of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange’s spell wiped Peter Parker’s existence from the memory of everyone he loved.

Peter started this new era completely isolated—living in a tiny New York apartment, stripped of Stark technology, and entirely separated from MJ and Ned:

<ul><li>The Weight of Solitude: Starting over from scratch forced Peter to confront the psychological toll of being totally forgotten.</li><li>The Courage to Reconnect: Rather than letting grief force him into total isolation, Peter’s arc in Brand New Day centers on learning that closing yourself off isn’t strength—it’s self-defense.</li><li>Street-Level Support: As Peter navigates the concrete jungle, the film showcases how local communities, unlikely allies, and fresh connections can pull someone back from the brink of despair.</li></ul>

It is precisely this emotional grounding that keeps audiences coming back to Spider-Man. While superhero blockbusters often revolve around saving the galaxy or stopping cosmic threats, Brand New Day reminds fans why Peter Parker remains the ultimate “Friendly Neighborhood” hero.

Speaking about the upcoming December blockbuster—which sees the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU, this time as the villainous Doctor Doom—Feige promised that the film’s climax will deliver emotional payoff and jaw-dropping twists in equal measure.

“I don’t want to spoil anything, but I think fans will be incredibly satisfied and yet incredibly surprised by where it’s headed,” Feige shared. “And then we’ll all have a hard time waiting a year for [Secret Wars].”

<h2>Universes Colliding on an Unprecedented Scale</h2>

While fans have naturally compared Doomsday and its 2027 sequel Avengers: Secret Wars to the back-to-back event spectacle of Infinity War and Endgame, Feige emphasized that the relationship between these two upcoming films is fundamentally different.

Rather than a straightforward “Part 1 and Part 2” narrative, Doomsday tackles the terrifying threat of multiversal incursions—where colliding realities force heroes from entirely different cinematic universes into a single arena.

<ul><li>The Collision of Franchises: The film brings together the Earth-616 Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, the Wakandans, and original X-Men characters under one massive roof to face Doctor Doom.</li><li>Doctor Doom’s Motivation: Feige teased that Downey’s Victor von Doom isn’t just a traditional villain—in his own mind, Doom believes “he is the hero and will save us all” from multiversal collapse.</li></ul>

<h2>The Ultimate Cliffhanger?</h2>

Feige’s comment about having a “hard time waiting a year” for Secret Wars has sent shockwaves through the Marvel fandom.

When Avengers: Infinity War ended in 2018 with Thanos’s snap, it left audiences in global shock for 12 months until Endgame arrived. Feige’s latest comments suggest that Doomsday may end on an equally monumental—yet entirely unexpected—cliffhanger that permanently alters the structure of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Trade rumors and insider reports suggest that Doomsday and Secret Wars will ultimately pave the way for a streamlined, unified MCU timeline moving forward, placing mutants and the X-Men squarely at its center.

<h2>The Countdown Begins</h2>

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.

If Feige’s promises hold true, fans should prepare themselves for a cinematic finale that satisfies years of multiversal storytelling—while leaving the entire world desperately counting down the 365 days until Secret Wars hits the screen.

In a box office upset for the history books, Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has shattered the all-time domestic opening weekend record, web-slinging to an unprecedented $360 million across North American theaters.

With final Sunday numbers officially tallied, Tom Holland’s fourth solo venture did what industry analysts once deemed virtually impossible: it dethroned 2019’s Avengers: Endgame ($357.1M) to claim the crown for the #1 biggest domestic opening weekend in cinematic history.

<h2>The Moment History Was Rewritten</h2>

When Avengers: Endgame delivered its breathtaking $357 million launch seven years ago, the consensus across Hollywood was that no single film would ever touch that ceiling again. It required a decade of cinematic universe buildup, an unprecedented culture-wide event, and near-24-hour theater operations across the country.

Enter Peter Parker.

Driven by a perfect storm of immense fan anticipation, glowing critical reviews, and round-the-clock sold-out auditoriums from Thursday previews through Sunday night, Brand New Day pulled off a miraculous weekend surge:

<ul><li>Friday Launch: $165 Million (including Thursday previews)</li><li>Saturday Total: $108 Million</li><li>Sunday Total: $87 Million</li><li>Three-Day Total: $360.0 Million</li></ul>

<h2>The Top 5 Domestic Opening Weekends of All Time</h2>

With Brand New Day taking the crown, Marvel Studios now lays claim to four of the top five biggest debuts in domestic history:

<ol><li>Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026): $360.0M</li><li>Avengers: Endgame (2019): $357.1M</li><li>Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021): $260.1M</li><li>Avengers: Infinity War (2018): $257.6M</li><li>Star Wars: The Force Awakens(2015): $247.9M</li></ol>

<h2>How Spidey Beat the Odds</h2>

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day promised a grounded, street-level reset for Peter Parker following the bittersweet conclusion of No Way Home. But rather than scaling down the film’s theatrical appeal, the emotional isolation of Peter—combined with high-octane appearances by Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Sadie Sink, and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner—turned the release into a mandatory big-screen cultural event.

Beyond North America, the film’s international performance has been equally terrifying for competitors, pushing its worldwide weekend opening toward a staggering $930+ million.

<h2>Cinema’s Bright New Era</h2>

The record-shattering $360 million debut doesn’t just represent a victory for Sony and Marvel—it serves as a thunderous endorsement for the health of movie theaters worldwide. As word-of-mouth continues to spread and premium formats like IMAX and Dolby Cinema remain booked solid for weeks ahead, Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t just sitting at the top of the box office mountain; it has elevated the entire industry along with it.

Yet, numbers rarely tell the whole story in Hollywood. What began as a modest theatrical release quickly transformed through home video, television broadcasts, and streaming into one of the most beloved and culturally influential family films of the late 20th century.

Thirty years after Matilda Wormwood first glued her father’s hat to his head, the film’s impact on pop culture, cinema, and generations of young viewers remains as potent as ever.

<h2>A Dark Fairy Tale That Never Talked Down to Kids</h2>

In the mid-1990s, family cinema was largely dominated by bright animated musicals and sanitized live-action comedies. Danny DeVito—who served as director, narrator, and co-star—took a radically different approach.

Working with wide-angle lenses, low camera placements, and a distinctly Dutch-tilt visual style, DeVito translated Roald Dahl’s gothic, slightly grotesque literary universe directly to the screen. He captured the world precisely as a child sees it: where adults can appear impossibly huge, intimidating, and unreasonable, while small acts of kindness feel monumental.

Rather than patronizing young audiences, the film respected their intelligence and validated their anxieties. It acknowledged a truth few children’s movies dared to touch—that parents can sometimes be foolish or negligent, and that authority figures aren’t always right.

<h2>The Birth of an Unconventional Heroine</h2>

At the heart of the film’s enduring legacy is Mara Wilson’s performance as Matilda. Unlike typical Hollywood child characters who relied on precocious sass or cute tropes, Wilson played Matilda with quiet dignity, intense focus, and profound empathy.

For millions of young readers and bookworms, Matilda became the ultimate hero. She didn’t gain her telekinetic powers through a superhero origin story or magical artifact; her magic blossomed from self-reliance, relentless curiosity, and a love for literature. Walking to the local library pulling a wagon full of books became an iconic image of childhood empowerment.

<h2>Unforgettable Scenes and Larger-Than-Life Characters</h2>

Part of what keeps Matilda permanently lodged in the public consciousness is its series of endlessly quotable, visually unforgettable set pieces:

Bruce Bogtrotter and the Chocolate Cake: Pam Ferris’s terrifying turn as Headmistress Agatha Trunchbull peaked during the forced consumption of a massive chocolate cake. What was intended as a cruel punishment turned into a cinematic triumph when the entire student body chanted, “Bruce! Bruce! Bruce!”

The Sanctuary of Miss Honey: Embeth Davidtz’s portrayal of Miss Honey provided the ultimate contrast to the garish Wormwood household and the brutal Crunchem Hall. She became cinema’s quintessential “safe adult,” showing audiences that family isn’t strictly defined by blood, but by love and mutual respect.

<h2>A Lasting Cinematic and Cultural Ripple Effect</h2>

The long-term influence of Matilda extends far beyond nostalgia marathons. The film helped pave the way for a broader appetite for darker, more stylized children’s adaptations in the late ’90s and 2000s, including A Series of Unfortunate Events and Coraline.

It also laid the foundation for the massive success of Matilda the Musical, which conquered the West End and Broadway before being adapted back into a feature film in 2022.

Thirty years after she first stood up to Miss Trunchbull, Matilda Wormwood’s story continues to resonate because its core message is timeless: no matter how small you are, you have the power to change your story and stand up against injustice.

Following a record-shattering launch across international and domestic markets, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has web-slung its way to a breathtaking $927 million global opening weekend. The gargantuan debut not only completely blew past trade projections, but it also cemented a monumental box office milestone: the MCU now officially holds the top three biggest global opening weekends of all time.

<h2>The All-Time Global Opening Weekend Leaderboard</h2>

<ol><li>Avengers: Endgame (2019): $1.2 Billion</li><li>Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026): $927 Million</li><li>Avengers: Infinity War (2018): $640 Million</li></ol>

Prior to this weekend, the #2 spot was held by Avengers: Infinity War, with films like Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Fate of the Furious trailing behind. Now, Marvel Studios and Sony have successfully pushed every non-MCU title completely out of the top three podium.

<h2>How ‘Brand New Day’ Made History</h2>

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day kicked off a high-stakes, grounded new chapter for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Riding a wave of immense fan anticipation, glowing critical reviews, and viral word-of-mouth, the film saw unprecedented theatrical turnouts around the globe:

<ul><li>European Dominance: The film shattered records across Europe, anchored by a historic first-day tally of 650,000 tickets sold in France—the country’s biggest single-day opening since Endgame.</li><li>IMAX &amp; PLF Surge: Premium large formats accounted for a massive chunk of total grosses, with IMAX screens reporting near-100% capacity showtimes through late-night screenings worldwide.</li><li>The Power of the Spidey Brand: Combining Peter’s street-level isolation with key appearances from Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Sadie Sink, and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner proved to be the ultimate recipe for a multi-quadrant event.</li></ul>

<h2>Unrivaled Box Office Hegemony</h2>

“To claim the top three global openings in cinematic history is simply unprecedented,” noted veteran box office analysts. “It demonstrates an unparalleled level of global brand power and theatrical staying power that no other franchise in Hollywood history has ever achieved.”

With summer school breaks in full swing and virtually no direct competition occupying premium large-format screens for weeks to come, Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t just eyeing the $1 billion club—it’s setting its sights on racing toward the $2 billion global threshold.

One thing is officially indisputable: when it comes to bringing global audiences back to movie theaters in historic numbers, no one does it like Marvel.

According to Variety, the British Film Institute’s BFI IMAX released an additional batch of seats on Friday, only for demand to overwhelm the ticketing system once again.

<h2>The Odyssey’s IMAX Frenzy Shows No Signs of Slowing Down</h2>

The new tickets went on sale at 2 p.m. local time for screenings at the BFI IMAX in London, home to the largest IMAX screen in the United Kingdom. Reports quickly emerged of tens of thousands of moviegoers waiting in the virtual queue, while the cinema later confirmed that every available ticket had been purchased in less than 30 minutes. The surge in traffic also caused the venue’s website to crash during the sale.

The latest rush follows a series of milestones for the theater, which has become one of the most sought-after destinations for audiences hoping to experience the title in its premium 70 mm IMAX presentation.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, “The Odyssey” adapts Homer’s classic Greek epic with Matt Damon leading an ensemble cast that also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton, and John Leguizamo. The production also marked a technical milestone as the first feature filmed entirely with IMAX 70 mm cameras.

The strong demand for premium screenings mirrors the picture’s broader commercial performance. Since opening in July, the hit has earned more than $720 million worldwide, becoming one of 2026’s highest-grossing releases while continuing to draw audiences eager to see Nolan’s latest film in its intended large-format presentation.
