With a staggering 91 movies and TV shows spanning a diverse array of genres, Benedict Cumberbatch has solidified his status as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors. What hasn’t he done yet?
From portraying Doctor Strange to embodying a Colonel of war in “1975,” he has consistently showcased skills that prove him suitable for any role that comes his way. And just when we think he can’t surprise us any further, he continues to bring fresh and original characters to life, consistently astonishing us.
This is further evidenced by his upcoming projects agenda, which, while not overflowing with titles, presents very intriguing premises. Here’s all you need to know about his next productions.
What are Benedict Cumberbatch’s next projects?
The Roses | TBA
Remember “The War of the Roses,” the 1989 American satirical black comedy film directed by Danny DeVito and starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner? Well, Benedict Cumberbatch is currently involved in remaking this classic. The project is in pre-production and has yet to announce its release date.
In this reimagining, Theo and Ivy seem to have it all: successful careers, loving children, and a seemingly perfect romance. However, beneath the surface of their idyllic family life lies competition and resentments, which erupt when Theo’s professional aspirations crumble.
Naturally, Cumberbatch’s co-star in this venture had to match his remarkable career trajectory, and who better than Olivia Colman to join him? Not only do they both headline the remake, titled “The Roses,” but they also serve as producers.
The Thing with Feathers | TBA
This is perhaps Benedict Cumberbatch’s most emotionally gripping project on his agenda. “The Thing with Feathers” will be an adaptation of Max Porter’s novel “Grief is the Thing With Feathers,” lauded as one of the “Top 100 Novels of the Twenty-first Century” by the Sunday Times.
In the upcoming drama, Cumberbatch will portray a father whose grasp on reality unravels following his wife’s passing, while an unsettling presence looms in the corners of their apartment, where he resides with his two sons.
The Marvel actor didn’t just sign on for this adaptation because he’s a fan of the novel. He was also captivated by the Enda Walsh play based on it, which starred Cillian Murphy in the lead role onstage. No release date has been announced for this project yet, so we’ll keep you updated.
Morning | TBA
Benedict Cumberbatch and Laura Dern form a screen duo that we never knew we needed, but now we do, and eagerly anticipate their upcoming sci-fi collaboration. It has been stuck in a sort of mini development hell since its announcement in January 2022 and is still in pre-production.
Directed by Justin Kurzel, known for his work on “Macbeth,” the film will transport the two esteemed actors to a near future where sleep is no longer a necessity thanks to artificial sunlight and a new medication. It will revolve around a three-member family consisting of characters played by Dern and Cumberbatch, alongside their son portrayed by Noah Jupe from “A Quiet Place.”
The title promises to be a profound exploration of the repercussions of technology on global health. We will keep you updated on it as soon as more information becomes available.
