After portraying Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than a decade, Chris Hemsworth is finding himself again in new ground. The actor has been receiving rave reviews for his performance in the “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa,” which is the first step in his reinvention.

It’s not that Hemsworth hasn’t proven that he is a talented actor before. However, after gaining worldwide recognition as the mythical god in the MCU, the Australian star was seen in projects in which he either was the action star (think Netflix’s ‘Extraction’) or the funny guy (Ghostbusters).

With the exceptions of the drama “Rush” and the underrated neo-noir thriller “Bad Times At The Royale,” Hemsworth hasn’t had many opportunities to showcase a different side of his talent. However, as he expressed to GQ, that he would like to work with dramatic directors such as Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Greta Gerwig, among others. While his name isn’t in those call sheets (yet), he does have some upcoming movies lined up.

Everything Chris Hemsworth is doing next

Deadpool and Wolverine (cameo) | July 26, 2024

While Hemsworth recently revealed that he isn’t in the upcoming Deadpool sequel, he will be making a brief appearance as Thor in the third installment of the franchise. At least through some old footage. However, as fans of the MCU have experience, actors wouldn’t actually tell if they’re part of a film (Andrew Garfield, we’re looking at you).

Transformers One | September 20, 2024

Chris Hemsworth will voice Optimus Prime in the upcoming animated prequel, “Transformers One.” Alongside him, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm complete the cast.

Josh Cooley directs the film, which will tell the “untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever.”

Project X | TBD

Hemsworth is also set to start in an upcoming spy action film directed by Matthew Vaughn. He will also share the screen with Sam Rockwell. However, the project has been kept under wraps and there’s not much details about the plot.

Darren Aronosfky’s potential projects | TBD

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth revealed that the award-winning director Darren Aronofsky, with whom Hemsworth worked in his documentary series “Limitless,” is developing two potential projects with him in mind: a dark comedy and the other is a sci-fi project.

Thor 5 | TBD

While there’s nothing concrete, Hemsworth also expressed his desire to do another Thor film, as he felt that his last outing as the character in “Love and Thunder” doesn’t do it justice. However, he also has said that it has to be something “unprecedented” for him to come back.
