Deadline reports that Star Wars’ latest franchise newest spin-off series, ‘The Acolyte,’ isn’t coming back for a second season after premiering back in June. The show starred Amandla Stenberg as twins Osha and Mae, as well as Manny Jacinto.

Per the reports, Lucasfilm opted not to proceed with a second season, despite the finale ending with several plotlines open for further exploration. The series was created, directed, executive produced by showrunner Lesley Headland.

‘The Acolyte’ earned buzz on social media but didn’t land with fans

The Acolyte had a strong premiere with 4.8M views in its first day on the streamer, being the biggest series premiere on Disney+ this year. It landed on Nielsen’s Top 10 original charts in the premiere week at No. 7 with 488 million minutes viewed.

However, the series couldn’t sustain the viewership, which dropped significantly over its course. It dropped off the Top 10 in Week 3 and only returned at No. 10 after the release of the finale. Per Deadline, it gathered 335M minutes, believed to be the lowest for a Star Wars series finale.

Part of the reason for the lack of viewership was the series’ challenge to the typical Star Wars story, particularly making the Jedi less perfect and more… nuanced, even making selfish choices. However, other fans of the show liked the stylistic choices. One aspect that received high praise was the action sequences.

On the other hand, the series helped Jacinto’s popularity surge back, especially as his character was depicted as an attractive villain. The series also starred Jodie Turner-Smith, Margarita Levieva, Carrie-Anne Moss, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Dean-Charles Chapman and Joonas Suotamo.

Ackie is set to appear in The Thursday Murder Club, an upcoming British crime comedy film directed by Chris Columbus and adapted by Katy Brand from Richard Osman’s 2020 novel of the same name.

When he helps his former colleague Hee-ju (Jeon) search for her missing husband, Jung-san (Kim Ju-hun), Mi-seon begins to suspect infidelity, sparking a series of misunderstandings that plunge the couple into danger.

Laci Peterson, who was eight months pregnant, disappeared from her home in Modesto, California, on December 24, 2002. Her husband, Scott Peterson, reported her missing, stating that she was gone when he returned from a fishing trip to the Berkeley Marina.

The case took a tragic turn in April 2003 when the bodies of Laci and her unborn son, Conner, were found in the San Francisco Bay, not far from where Scott had been fishing.

What happened to Laci Peterson?

Scott Peterson was arrested shortly after the discovery of the bodies and was later charged with two counts of murder. In November 2004, he was found guilty of first-degree murder for Laci’s death and second-degree murder for Conner’s (their unborn child) death.

Though sentenced to death in 2005, the California Supreme Court overturned his death sentence in 2020 due to errors in jury selection. However, Peterson’s conviction was upheld, and he was resentenced to life in prison without parole.

Borgman explained her approach to the documentary, emphasizing her interest in complex narratives. “I’m not particularly interested in looking at stories that are very black-and-white. I don’t know that those stories really exist,” she told Netflix’s Tudum, highlighting her belief that every story has deeper layers that contribute to its development.

She also noted that the documentary evolved into a broader examination of family dynamics. “It really is a documentary about family,” Borgman said. The series explores the diverse ways that both Laci’s and Scott’s families reacted to the tragedy, how they have healed, and how they have dealt with the trauma.

While the series has received mixed reviews by critics and it has been divisive among fans, whether you love to watch it or just love to hate it, the show has maintained its popularity. This time, the show, which once again features an eclectic soundtrack, has been divided into two parts with the final five episodes being released on Sept. 12.

Meanwhile, speaking about the pregnancy news and how it will affect the characters, Collins says Emily “really loves and adores” both her friendship with Camille and her relationship with Gabriel, so she just “really wants the best for Cami” but the news will “throw a wrench into the situation.”

On the other hand, Bravo told Variety that Gabriel will have his “confidence” affected because the “promise of the baby intoxicated him, and it gave him the confidence to chase after the Michelin star and Emily.” He also says that while his character loves Camille, it’s still “a big lie.”

‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ is coming out in May

The movie is coming to theaters on May 9 over Mother’s Day weekend, according to Sony Pictures’ release schedule. The studio is marketing the film as its “next female event movie,” following the release of the highly-controversial “It Ends With Us.”

The doctors involved allegedly provided Perry with a significant amount of ketamine, exploiting the actor’s struggles with addiction for financial gain, Estrada stated.
