The search for a new Aragorn may already be over, at least if Elijah Wood is to be taken at his word. During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor appeared to confirm that Leo Woodall has been cast as a younger version of the character in “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.” 



The film, set for release in December 2027, is directed by and stars Andy Serkis, with Peter Jackson producing, and will explore Aragorn’s pursuit of Gollum in the years before “The Fellowship of the Ring.”

Wood’s comment came almost offhandedly when he was asked about ongoing rumors that the role would go to Leo Woodall. “That is true. Those are tough boots to fill, man,” he said, in a remark that quickly caught the attention of fans who have been following casting speculation closely. No official announcement has been made so far, and neither Warner Bros. nor its partners have addressed the claim. In fact, in a recent conversation with ScreenRant, Andy Serkis suggested the opposite when discussing the casting process: “I don’t know what’s out there at the moment, but I know there’s a lot of speculation, but let’s just say we are recasting the role and we are on the way to finding someone.” The conflicting signals only add to the uncertainty.



Woodall’s name has circulated in fan conversations for months, but this is the first time someone directly connected to the original trilogy has publicly backed the idea. The actor rose to prominence with his performance in “The White Lotus” before taking on a leading role in “One Day,” establishing himself as a rising presence with both range and screen appeal.
