According to People, Jake sat down with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles for his first interview since his parents were killed, with portions of the conversation airing on Good Morning America yesterday.

Jake Reiner Opens Up About His Family’s Loss

Rob, the acclaimed filmmaker and actor behind “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…” and “A Few Good Men,” was found dead alongside Michele at their Brentwood home on Dec. 14, 2025. Both died from multiple sharp-force injuries, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled their deaths homicides. Their daughter Romy discovered her father’s body and called for help.

Nick Reiner was arrested later that day near the University of Southern California. He was eventually charged with two counts of first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty. A Los Angeles County grand jury indicted him in July, with the indictment including special circumstance allegations involving multiple murders and lying in wait, as well as an allegation that he personally used a knife.

Jake described the passage of time since his parents’ deaths as difficult to comprehend. “It’s been 8 months. It feels like 8 years at the same time. And it also feels like 8 minutes,” he said. “Because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality.”

The arrest of Nick added another painful dimension to the family’s loss. When asked about the reality of his brother being incarcerated, Jake struggled to articulate what the past eight months have meant. “I physically lost my parents. And then Nick was arrested. And now it’s me and Romy.” Nick remains in custody as the case proceeds, with a pretrial hearing scheduled for Sept. 15.

Amid everything that has happened, Jake also returned to the bond he remembers his parents sharing with their children. “My parents had unconditional love for all three of us,” he said.
