Out of the 22 films competing for the Palme d’Or, this is the last to come close to a perfect score. Portuguese director Miguel Gomes is known for “Our Beloved Month of August,” which has gained critical acclaim worldwide.



Rangoon, Burma, 1917. Edward, a British Empire official, flees from his fiancée Molly on the day she arrives to marry him. However, during his journey, panic gives way to melancholy. Contemplating the emptiness of his existence, cowardly Edward wonders what has become of Molly. Amused by Edward, Molly tracks him across Asia.



“The Substance” by Coralie Fargeat – 2.7 score



Although the Oscars typically overlook <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/horror">horror</a> movies for their awards, we can dream that they will make an exception for this film starring Demi Moore, which received a 13-minute ovation at its premiere.

Could this be the first Oscar for <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/selena-gomez">Selena Gomez</a>? It seems quite probably! Among all the titles at Cannes that feature Hollywood stars, “Emilia Perez” has been the best reviewed by critics.

Set in a conservative community in the Danube Delta, a gay teenager’s journey of self-discovery clashes with the traditional values upheld by his parents and neighbors.



“Megalopolis” by Francis Ford Coppola – 2.1 Score



It’s quite probable that this rating not only reflects the quality of the film but also the controversies that Coppola had to endure from the day he began filming. Nevertheless, it’s always certain that big names make it to the Oscars. And this is one of the biggest.

“I was the one who really knew what Star Wars was…who actually knew this world, because there’s a lot to it. The force, for example, nobody understood the force,” he stated. “When they started other ones after I sold the company, a lot of the ideas that were in the original sort of got lost. But that’s the way it is. You give it up, you give it up.”



Furthermore, that wasn’t the sole controversial statement he made. He proceeded to defend his “Star Wars” prequel films against detractors, contending that critics have overlooked the fact that they were never intended to be mature films: “It was supposed to be a kid’s movie for 12-year-olds that were going through puberty, who don’t know what they’re doing, and are asking all the big questions: What should I be worried about? What’s important in life?,”.



Lastly, he also stood by his criticized decision to use new digital technology to make the original trilogy look the way he always envisioned. Lucas asserted that directors should always have the right to do whatever they want with their movies, even if it doesn’t please everyone.

In the late 1970s, when Columbia Pictures asked for a sequel to “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” Spielberg conceived the idea for “Night Skies.” The story was inspired by the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter, where a Kentucky family reported being terrorized by gremlin-like aliens.



The story centered on eleven malevolent extraterrestrial scientists trying to communicate with chickens, cows, and other beings to identify sentient species on Earth. Then, they would turn aggressive against a human family, dissecting their farm animals in the process.



Spielberg reserved cargo space on the 1980 inaugural Space Shuttle flight to film the Earth and its Moon from orbit for the film’s opening sequence. Additionally, he had Rick Baker create a working prototype of the lead alien, costing $70,000. So, what happened?

As mentioned, Lily Sullivan is the sole actress on screen throughout the entire movie, accompanied only by the voices she hears via her podcast. Some of the actors who contribute through these dialogues include Ling Cooper Tang, Ansuya Nathan, Erik Thomson, and Terence Crawford.



The final scene leaves viewers with an ending open to free interpretation. Many have compared it to David Lynch’s “Lost Highway” and Michael Haneke’s “Hidden.” Screen Hub listed the production as one of the top 10 horror films of 2022.

While the movie was destined for success due to the intrinsic fame of the “<a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/mad-max">Mad Max</a>” franchise, the casting of <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/anya-taylor-joy">Anya Taylor-Joy</a> as Furiosa has undoubtedly boosted its popularity.

In fact, so far, the only confirmed member of the cast is <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/tom-hardy">Tom Hardy</a>, leading many media outlets to speculate that the film was cancelled. However, George Miller recently confirmed in his Cannes press conference that there are more “Mad Max” movies on the horizon and that “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” was created to pave the way for “Mad Max: The Wasteland”.



However, since the latter is slated to be a direct continuation of “Mad Max: Fury Road,” it’s highly likely that Furiosa will be portrayed by Charlize Theron, who played the character in the 2015 installment.



On the one hand, its clear that Theron would be eager to return, as she mentioned in a 2020 interview with the New York Times. There, she revealed to be initally excited because Miller wanted her to lead the Furiosa movie, but technology wasn’t advanced enough to de-age her sufficiently.



However, it’s also possible that Theron may not want to come back to the “Mad Max” set due to her well-documented feud with Tom Hardy, which left her feeling unsafe, as she mentioned in interviews for the book “Blood, Sweat and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road”. If she chooses not to appear, Miller may have no choice but to recast Anya, no matter the circumstances.
