David Lynch has just announced his return, but we don’t yet know where he will make his comeback. Music? Cinema? Series? Here’s what it could be.

Undoubtedly, David Lynch is a figure sorely missed, both on the small and big screen. With a career spanning since 1967, he has left an indelible mark on the history of surrealist cinema.

He’s not just a filmmaker; he’s an artist in every sense of the word. From selling his paintings to releasing musical projects, it seems there’s nothing he hasn’t tried. But let’s be honest: we all yearn for him to return to what he does best, which is, of course, filming.

Just moments ago, he teased his upcoming work as something that can be seen and heard, set to be released on June 5. What exactly is he planning to do next?

What is David Lynch’s next project about?

Following Lynch’s footsteps over the last ten years, we can speculate about what he has just teased. In the best-case scenario, it might be a teaser for a project that fans of his movies have long awaited: “Snootworld,” an experimental animated title he has been working on for a few years.

However, its production and future release are uncertain due to Lynch’s complex relationship with Netflix. In 2021, reports emerged that the streaming giant had hired Lynch to direct two projects, but there was no further development until January of this year when the director revealed that producers had declined to finance “Snootworld.”

For those hoping it might be his other collaboration with Netflix, “Unrecorded Night,” we regret to inform you that it was also announced as cancelled in early May. At this point, it seems unlikely that his recent announcement is related to new movies or series.

Moreover, since Lynch mentioned that his next work would also involve sound, it’s probable that it will be related to his music endeavors. As fans know, he has been deeply involved in the music of his films, series, and personal projects since “Eraserhead.” A return to it would be significant, as he hasn’t released an album since 2013’s “The Big Dream.”

Alternatively, it could simply be the revival of his “Weather Report” YouTube series, which has been inactive since December 2022. Even if it’s just to watch his daily weather reports from Los Angeles, it’s exciting to have him back.
