The film not only outperformed “Jurassic World Dominion,” a heavyweight in the catalog, but it’s also in a tight race with Camila Mendes and “Upgraded” for the third spot in the ranking.
Its story follows Mason Pettits, a former special forces operative, who hesitantly accepts a freelance job to safeguard a journalist while she interviews a South American dictator. In the midst of the event, they’re faced with a military coup threat, forcing them to team up in order to survive in the jungle.
While John Cena shines as the lead, he is supported by co-stars Alison Brie and Juan Pablo Raba. The ensemble cast also includes performances by Christian Slater, Alice Eve, and Marton Csokas.
Critics haven’t been too generous with their reviews of “Freelance,” but action enthusiasts embraced it for delivering the classic John Cena experience: intense fight scenes, explosions, car crashes, and a touch of family-friendly humor.
