“Mother Mary” is the next big film from A24 and David Lowery, featuring a multitude of prominent stars from the industry. Its lead actors are the iconic Anna Hathaway (The Idea of You) and Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You).
The director known for The Green Knight, who also developed the script, has described it as “an epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer”.
The anticipation surrounding the drama is quite high, not only due to the behind-the-scenes team and the leading actresses, but also because of the other notable cast members, including Hunter Schafer and Alba Baptista.
When could Mother Mary be released?
Although it is still in post-production, “Mother Mary” is closer than ever, and if everything goes as planned, we can expect the romantic music and drama film to hit the big screen by mid-2025.
Filming began in Germany in May 2023 and by July of that same year, the production was granted a waiver to continue filming during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Today, Anne announced that the filming has just been completed.
The lead actress shared the news on her personal Instagram, where she wrote “Just wrapped David Lowery’s #MotherMary, one of the most extraordinary, transformative experiences I have ever had… To our brilliant cast and crew-especially the incandescent @michaelacoelweb – thank you for making it so epic and unforgettable“.
