Since the first trailer for “Longlegs” dropped two months ago, Oz Perkins’ new horror movie has been on everyone’s lips, stirring discussions among critics and the public alike. Neon, the production company behind it, has been keenly aware of this buzz and has been releasing short, eerie teasers to sustain the excitement.

Although the movie company has produced many Oscar-winning pictures, it dedicates a great part of its focus to competing against A24 and Blumhouse in the horror business. While the latter primarily dedicate to commercial cinema, Neon aims to capture the complex audience they often overlook.

“Longlegs” plot is set in 1974 and centers around Lee Harker, an FBI agent assigned to solve an intricate case of a serial killer that involves esotericism. As the investigation deepens, she finds herself connected to the assassin and realizes she’s in imminent danger.

When will Longlegs be released?

Unlike most filmmakers in the horror genre, it appears that Oz Perkins doesn’t need to rely on Halloween to draw crowds to theaters. According to IMDb, the release date for “Longlegs” is set for July 12.

While the director of “Gretel & Hansel” hasn’t given many interviews about his upcoming film, a 2020 conversation with Polygon may shed light on its essence: “As nicely as horror movies have come out of the reputation-gutter and become more well-thought-of by the general public, I think the thriller should be next up. Where’s our Vertigo? That’s what I’m working on next”.

Oz Perkins’ interests are likely influenced by the fact that he is the elder son of Anthony Perkins, the iconic Norman Bates from “Psycho”. Therefore, we can expect the style of “Longlegs” to be associated with various Hitchcockian tropes and themes.

Who are the cast of Longlegs?

Although the Neon team is executing a magnificent marketing campaign for “Longlegs”, the thriller garnered attention prior to the unveiling of its plot, posters, and trailers. The announcement of its main cast, featuring Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe, is what has captivated cinemagoers the most.

The star of “Dracula” returns to the horror genre, this time portraying a serial killer. His performance in various test screenings conducted by the production company has been praised and described as profoundly distressing.

Meanwhile, Maika Monroe takes on the role of Lee Harker, the FBI agent determined to stop Cage’s character. Since her impressive acting in “It Follows”, critics have eagerly awaited for her to play the final girl archetype once again. It’s plausible that “Longlegs” fulfills their expectations.
