Since the end of the first part of “Maxton Hall,” fans of the German series have eagerly awaited the announced second season to see Harriet Herbig-Matten and Damian Hardung’s on-screen chemistry again, which has sparked numerous dating rumors.
In the meantime, the actor behind James Beaufort is about to release another project called “Love Sucks,” an eight-episode vampire-themed series that also follows the enemies-to-lovers dynamic of the Prime Video hit but is much more intense and adult.
While there isn’t much information about it yet, as the release date of the show approaches, Damian Hardung has become increasingly open about his enigmatic role as a passionate vampire. Here’s everything he has revealed about his character, Ben.
All about Ben, Damian Hardung’s vampire role in ‘Love Sucks’
In a recent interview with the crew behind the Munich International Film Festival, where the title will premiere, Damian Hardung revealed that Ben is heavily influenced by the techno-themed, neon-lit obscurity of the fantasy Frankfurt where the production is set.
There, he is a vampire with a long family lineage that spans centuries. In fact, the actor stated that his character is 300 years old and has known many historical figures, including Napoleon.
Having seen so much of the world, the monster exhibits a maturity unreachable in a human lifespan. However, Hardung revealed that the prospect of an endless life brings Ben profound melancholy, particularly about love and the inability to die.
The “Maxton Hall” actor also mentioned that the great thing about Ben is that his heyday was in the 1950s, so his pop culture references are deeply rooted in the nostalgia and charm of that era.
He also stated that Ben struggles to enjoy youthful lightness due to the burdens imposed by his vampire family, particularly the influence of his brother, played by Rick Orkon.
