The trailer for “Mufasa” has just been released! “The Lion King” fans are torn between excitement and horror, but one thing’s for certain: the resurgence of this Disney classic is a pivotal moment for the company.
This upcoming production is set to be a musical drama film, serving as a prequel to the beloved franchise’s extensive array of movies and series. It’s directed by Barry Jenkins, famous for being the creator of the 2016 Oscar-winning picture “Moonlight”.
Not only does the “Mufasa” cast boast a constellation of stars coming from the previous installation, but also has astonishing new additions. Get all the details you need right here.
Who are the cast of Mufasa?
Initially, only a few names were announced: First, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner, were confirmed to reprise their roles as Pumbaa and Timon from the 2019 “The Lion King” remake. Later, Aaron Pierre was slated to lend his voice to Mufasa, John Kani to embody Rafiki, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. to portray the villainous Scar.
Just moments ago, the trailer unveiled additional stars for the prequel: Donald Glover, Mads Mikkelsen, and Thandiwe Newton. While their character details remain shrouded, Glover is anticipated to reprise his role as Simba, the character he voiced five years prior.
But the most electrifying news? Beyoncé returns to voice Nala, accompanied by her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, who will celebrate her film debut! While specifics are scarce, speculation hints that Blue Ivy might portray Kiara, the daughter of Nala and Simba.
Additionally, another prominent figure emerged, not as a cast member but as a key contributor: Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will work on the songwriting alongside Hans Zimmer and Pharrell Williams. In a recent interview with Empire, Barry Jenkins spoke about collaborating with Miranda:
“We wanted to really find a balance of symbiosis between the music and the film. Lin really leaned in and tried to find the places that myself and Jeff Nathanson, the writer of the script, had tried to go deeper into the background of some of these characters in this film. He did a really, really wonderful job, and he and I already had something of a rapport.”
