With each movie he releases, Luca Guadagnino is emerging as one of Hollywood’s most graceful talents. Following the remarkable success of “The Challengers,” we can confidently say he has already attained celebrity status.

Nevertheless, the Italian director has never compromised his cinematic style for fame. Since “Call Me by Your Name,” his filmmaking pursuits have always delved into themes of desire, solitude, and impossible love, often leaving audiences both amazed and unsettled.

At present, he is involved in the production of five films and a series that aim to explore these same topics with greater intensity. Here, check everything about Luca Guadagnino’s next movies.

What are Luca Guadagnino’s next movies and series?

Find Me – TBA

Two years after “Call Me By Your Name” had hit theaters, a sequel to the novel upon which Luca Guadagnino based his film was published, titled “Find Me”. The director has expressed his desire to continue Elio’s story on multiple occasions, and the release of the second book provided the perfect opportunity.

According to IMDb, the sequel’s production is currently in development, so an official plot or an estimated release date haven’t yet been disclosed. However, we can anticipate it will follow the narrative of the novel, which is divided into four sections depicting various moments from Elio’s adult life.

It’s unlikely that Timothée Chalamet or Armie Hammer will return for this sequel, not only due to Chalamet’s busy schedule but also because of the latter 2021 scandal, which has kept him out of the spotlight.

The Lord of the Flies – TBA

Guadagnino’s adaptation won’t be the first time “The Lord of the Flies” appears on either the small or big screen. Not only has William Golding’s debut novel already been adapted to cinema three times, but it also served as inspiration for the acclaimed series “Yellowjackets”.

The plot centers on a British airplane crash that strands a group of young boys on a remote island. As they strive to establish a small society, they undergo individual growth and maturation.

Nothing is known about the movie, except that it’s in its initial pre-production stages and will feature an all-girl cast. The decision to change the gender of the characters has sparked controversy, so it’s uncertain how it will be received by the public.

Burial Rites – TBA

If it hasn’t become apparent yet, Luca Guadagnino’s primary focus in his work lies in adapting novels. One of his upcoming projects is “Burial Rites,” set to bring to the screen the acclaimed book by Hannah Kent, which captivated readers globally over a decade ago.

This text tells the story of Agnes Magnúsdóttir, who worked as a servant in northern Iceland. She was sentenced to death for murdering two men, making her the last woman to be executed in that country.

While major details about the movie are still undisclosed, Jennifer Lawrence has been confirmed as the lead and will also serve as the producer of the picture. Notably, she has been involved in producing since her 2022 film, “Causeway”.

Camere Separate – TBA

With this film adaptation, Luca Guadagnino returns to his roots. “Camere Separate” is an intimate novel published in 1989 by the acclaimed Pier Vittorio Tondelli, known as one of the most prominent Italian narrative writers of the 1980s.

The plot revolves around the relationship between two men, Leo and Thomas, who face societal obstacles in their love for each other. Spanning three years, the narrative traces their conflicted romance across Milan, Paris, London, and Florence.

Exciting news for fans of “The Challengers”! Josh O’Connor has been confirmed to portray the role of Leo. While the role of Thomas is still awaiting casting, another notable name joining the credits is Léa Seydoux.

After the Hunt – TBA

“After the Hunt” is poised to become Luca Guadagnino’s most controversial film to date, featuring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri in undisclosed roles.

The movie delves into intense drama and suspense, following a college professor who confronts personal and professional challenges when a top student accuses a colleague, and a hidden aspect of her past looms over her.

According to Deadline, production is set to commence this summer, with the film slated for theatrical release next year. Stay tuned for further updates on the exact premiere date.

Queer – TBA

Of all Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming films,Queer is the closest to hitting cinemas, as it’s already in post-production. It stands out as one of the director’s most intimate works, being a reimagining of the novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs, a book he fell in love with when he was a teenager.

The plot centers on William Lee, a man living in 1940s Mexico City and grappling with addiction, who becomes deeply drawn to Allerton, a conflicted and discharged American Navy serviceman.

Following their successful collaboration on “The Challengers,” Guadagnino enlisted Justin Kuritzkes once again to work on the script. The star-studded cast includes Daniel Craig, Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, and Drew Starkey. Various media outlets have reported that the movie will premiere on the festival circuit later this year.

American Psycho TBA

24 years after the release of “American Psycho” in theaters, Luca confirmed that he will be responsible for bringing the iconic horror film back to the big screen, but it will not be a remake; rather, it will be a new adaptation.

It is still unknown who will portray Patrick Bateman, previously played by Christian Bale. However, several rumors have begun to circulate, and a name that frequently comes up is Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

Lionsgate will be the production company responsible for creating the new version of the dramatic film about America’s most popular serial killer, whose story is based on the novel written by Bret Easton Ellis.

We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate. Luca is a brilliant artist, and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP“, President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Adam Fogelson said.
