Ambika Mod is the breakthrough star of Netflix’s new miniseries “One Day,” which is an adaptation of David Nichols’ novel of the same name. It’s also a remake of the 2011’s movie with Anne Hathaway. In the show, she plays Emma Morley, an idealist writer who tries to make her way in the world.
While the series focuses heavily on the relationship between Emma and Dexter, played by ‘The White Lotus’ star Leo Woodall, the show also gives each character their time to shine on their own. And Mod nails Emma’s sarcastic wit, while also giving space to her more complex, hidden emotions.

‘This Is Going to Hurt,’ the medical dramedy with Ambika Mod
“This Is Going to Hurt” is a British medical dramedy, which follows a cohort of junior doctors employed in an obstetrics and gynecology ward within a National Health Service hospital. As other medical dramas, it showcases the emotional toll of the demanding workplace.
The two main characters are Shruti Acharya, played by Mod, and Adam Kay (played by Ben Whishaw), as they navigate the intricacies of hospital hierarchy. The series not only mixes comedy and drama, but it also breaks the fourth wall.
With only seven episodes, the series is perfect for a binge-watch. However, just as “One Day,” viewers will have some heavy emotions as they watch the characters struggle with their taxing jobs. The series also stars Alex Jennings, Michele Austin, Rory Fleck Byrne, Ashley McGuire, Kadiff Kirwan and Harriet Walter.

In general, the series has been well received by critics and audiences alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 95 percent score of approval. Among the praises for its script, tone and performance, some critics highlighted Mod’s performance. For example, Jack King from GQ wrote that Shruti’s story as the show’s “most compelling, heart-wrenching subplots,” while calling the actress “2022’s first bona fide breakout.”
