The Oscar-nominated star and his production banner, Open Invite, have partnered with Warner Bros. to develop a new live-action film in The Flintstones universe—this time centering on a grown-up Bamm-Bamm Rubble.
While specific storyline details are being kept under wraps, the project is actively searching for a writer to draft the script. Gosling is producing alongside his Open Invite partner, Jessie Henderson. While it remains unconfirmed whether Gosling intends to take on the starring role himself, the prospect of the Barbie actor portraying the preternaturally strong, grown-up Bamm-Bamm has already sparked widespread internet buzz.
Bamm-Bamm’s History of Growing Up
First introduced in the iconic 1960s Hanna-Barbera animated series as the adopted, club-swinging toddler son of Barney and Betty Rubble, Bamm-Bamm was known for his unmatched physical strength and simple two-word vocabulary. However, aging up the character is not without precedent in the franchise:
- The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show (1971): The character first aged up into a teenager, attending Bedrock High School, dating Fred and Wilma’s daughter Pebbles, and playing in a band called the Bedrock Rockers.
- Later Animated Specials: Subsequent TV movies followed Bamm-Bamm and Pebbles through adulthood, showing them getting married and starting a family of their own.
- Live-Action Precedents: Bamm-Bamm previously appeared as a toddler in Universal’s 1994 box-office smash The Flintstones starring John Goodman and Rick Moranis, but was omitted from the 2000 prequel The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.
