What’s better than watching an action movie starring Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger? Watching a film with both of them, of course. “Escape Plan,” their first collaboration as co-stars, currently ranks as the sixth most-watched film on Paramount+ worldwide, despite being released a decade ago.
The production was destined for success from the moment the director was announced. Mikael Håfström, renowned for directing John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson in “1408” and guiding Anthony Hopkins in his exorcism movie “The Rite,” helmed the project.
With a budget of $50 million, “Escape Plan” nearly tripled its investment, grossing $137 million worldwide. While IMDb notes it wasn’t a major success domestically, it enjoyed remarkable popularity in both Asian and European markets.
Escape Plan reaches Top 6 movie worldwide on Paramount+
Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are the undisputed icons of action cinema. Hence, it’s no surprise to see “Escape Plan” dominating the genre’s catalog on Paramount+, currently ranking as the No. 6 movie worldwide, according to FlixPatrol.

Remarkably, it has surpassed “Finestkind” by a significant margin, despite the recent Jenna Ortega fever that propelled the latter to high rankings in previous weeks. However, it seems unlikely to outshine the title currently occupying the fifth spot, “Significant Other,” which is experiencing a surge in rewatching due to anticipation for Maika Monroe’s upcoming horror projects.

The movie follows Ray Breslin, a specialist in testing the security measures of the world’s toughest prisons. When he receives a multi-million dollar deal from the CIA to test a top-secret prison under the condition of knowing nothing about it, Breslin accepts with suspicion, only to find his concerns justified.
Stallone portrays Ray Breslin, while Schwarzenegger embodies Rottmayer, a fellow inmate who aids Ray in escaping the top-secret facility. The rest of the star-studded cast doesn’t disappoint, with 50 Cent, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jim Caviezel among the notable names in secondary roles.
Continuing its legacy like any great action film, “Escape Plan 2: Hades” was released in June 2018, followed by “Escape Plan: The Extractors” in July 2019, both featuring Dave Bautista as Stallone’s new sidekick.
