Netflix is kicking off its Halloween preparations with the release of “The Deliverance”, marking the first step in curating a spooky season catalog. And it certainly proved to be a great choice! Within hours of its release, the film became the most-watched movie worldwide, according to FlixPatrol.
Its story centers around Ebony Jackson, a mother of three. The family moves to a new home, accompanied by Ebony’s elderly mother, Alberta. Almost immediately after their arrival, they begin to encounter paranormal phenomena.
This tale isn’t entirely a creation of director Lee Daniels‘ imagination—it’s inspired by a real-life case. As often happens with pictures based on true events, everyone is now asking: where are the real protagonists today?
The current whereabouts of Latoya Ammons and her kids
“The Deliverance” is based on the Ammons haunting case, also known as the 200 Demons House or Demon House, where Latoya Ammons, her mother Rosa Campbell, and her three children—then ages 7, 9, and 12—experienced terrifying events when moving into a new home in Gary, Indiana, in 2011.
What began as mysterious footsteps in the basement quickly escalated to incidents like choking by unseen forces and even the youngest child levitating! The family eventually enlisted Father Michael Maginot to perform an exorcism. Regardless of the outcome, they chose to move to Indianapolis, where, according to HuffPost, the strange occurrences ceased.
Until Netflix began work on “The Deliverance,” little was known about the Ammons’ current whereabouts. However, director Lee Daniels revealed that he reached out to Latoya to discuss the production about her story. He told The Hollywood Reporter:
“It’s my interpretation of her life story. I purposely didn’t want to meet her because I was nervous. But I spoke to her… And she’s lovely. She was at peace.” So, we know that the woman who inspired the character of Ebony is alive and well.
As for her children, details about their current lives remain scarce. However, there have been reports that Latoya’s youngest child, Armani Ammons—referred to as Andre in “The Deliverance”—passed away on October 8, 2021, in his mother’s arms, according to his obituary. This information, however, remains unconfirmed by official media outlets.
