Netflix: 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back' ranks Top 2 in the United States

Though critics labeled "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" as one of Tom Cruise’s worst films, it seems to have found its audience on Netflix, where it’s now attracting massive viewership.

While we might prefer iconic movie sequels to stop being made, we always end up watching them to revisit beloved characters and moments. “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” is a prime example, currently trending on Netflix in the US, according to Flix Patrol.

Despite our reservations about second parts, Tom Cruise‘s star power always draws us in. This was true for “Mission: Impossible,” “Top Gun,” and “Jack Reacher” is no exception.

The film’s box office performance reflects this, with a budget of $60 million and earnings of $162.1 million. Whether it matches the quality of the original is debatable, but many agree it makes for an enjoyable Sunday watch.

Netflix US: ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’ is the second most-watched movie

From the moment “Jack Reacher” received positive reviews, Paramount Pictures quickly announced plans to turn it into a film franchise based on Lee Child’s popular book series. The anticipation for the sequel was high, and gave “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” good box office numbers. Now, the success is repeated, as the flick rapidly became the third most-watched movie on Netflix in the US, despite being released eight years ago.

It has easily surpassed “Tarot” and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” with “Tarot” being a hit horror film of the month and “Ghostbusters” marking the return of the beloved franchise. Currently, it’s battling “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie” for a higher position on the charts.

In “Never Go Back,” Major Susan Turner, leader of Reacher’s former military unit, is falsely accused of treason. Jack Reacher must break her out of prison and uncover a government conspiracy to clear their names and save their lives. During the escape, Reacher discovers a secret from his past that changes his life forever.

Tom Cruise returns as Reacher, joined by Cobie Smulders, Aldis Hodge, Danika Yarosh, Jessica Stroup, and Patrick Heusinger. While it may not match the first film’s quality, it’s a solid pick for a relaxing marathon night.

However, if you’re hoping the franchise will not continue, you might be disappointed. Producer Christopher McQuarrie has expressed that he and Tom Cruise have an ongoing interest in reviving the movie series. As he told Empire, ‘The franchise has moved on…we haven’t.'”
