Additionally, he will also continue with other significant titles in his career, such as the new installments of Mission: Impossible. If you ever thought there were already enough, let me tell you that you are mistaken because more parts are on the way. Here, check out which film releases are coming soon…

What are Tom Cruise’s next movies?

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two

Dead Reckoning – Part Two is the upcoming spy and action film directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay co-written with Erik Jendresen. It is scheduled to be the sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which was released in 2023 and also serves as the eighth installment in the franchise.

Of course, Cruise will reprise his iconic role, Ethan Hunt, a character he has portrayed for 29 consecutive years since the first film debuted on the big screen. The filming has already concluded, as it was shot consecutively with the previous installment. Currently, the movie is set to be released on May 23, 2025, and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

According to the official synopsis provided by IMDb, the plot follows Ethan and his team on a mission to find and destroy an AI known as The Entity. The globetrotting journey leads to incredible action scenes and more than one unexpected twist.

The film to be shot in space

And to break with all predictions and paradigms, the star will truly do the impossible: he will become the first civilian to perform a spacewalk outside the space station. Directing the movie, still in development, is Doug Liman, known for being responsible for Edge of Tomorrow.

According to Variety, it was already known that the film would shoot scenes on the ISS, but Universal Pictures’ Chairwoman, Donna Langley, confessed that the plan is for the actor not only to travel to space but also to perform a spacewalk. Of course, the project has a quite extensive budget, approximately 200 million dollars.

Elon Musk and his company SpaceX will assist in making this a reality, as the star would travel aboard the Crew Dragon capsule. In addition to details about the overall team, Langley revealed a bit about the general storyline. When talking about Cruise’s journey into space, she said:

“It actually [mostly] takes place on Earth, and then the character needs to go to space to save the day”. The main character is basically “an unlucky guy who finds himself in the position of being the only person who could save the Earth”.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s untitled film

Tom was chosen to star in the upcoming film by Mexican director Alejandro G. Iñárritu for Warner Bros. and Legendary. According to Deadline, the project would mark the filmmaker first English-language movie since his success with The Revenant in 2015, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Not much is known about the project, as it is being worked on with a great deal of rigor, secrecy, and mystery. The plot has not yet been revealed, but it has been confirmed that it will be produced by the director, who also co-wrote the screenplay in 2023 along with Sabina Berman and his co-writers from Birdman, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone.

Top Gun 3

On Friday, January 12, 2024, the possible arrival of a third installment of Top Gun was confirmed. The franchise is set to return, and everything indicates that Tom will once again don the role of Maverick to lead the plot, alongside other stars from the sequel’s cast, such as Miles Teller and Glen Powell.

Although the news was a surprise, it is undoubtedly not shocking. This is because Top Gun: Maverick was so successful, ranking as one of the highest-grossing films in cinema history, breaking several records, and propelling many of the actors to fame.

It is also being scheduled for Joseph Kosinski to return as the director, maintaining the same mystique and magic as the previous installment. There are not many details yet about the official cast, the plot, or even the release date.

The Movie Critic

The Movie Critic will be Quentin Tarantino‘s last major film, marking his farewell to the industry as a director. According to various rumors, Tom Cruise has been chosen to co-star in the story alongside Brad Pitt.

Not much is known yet, but it has been confirmed that the drama is expected to hit the big screen at some point in 2025. The plot follows an irreverent critic in 1970s California who reviews conventional films for an adult magazine called “The Popstar Pages”.

According to the filmmaker himself, the movie is loosely inspired by the story of a real anonymous writer who supposedly died at the age of thirty. “He wrote about conventional cinema and was a second-tier critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was very cynical. He was very rude. He cursed. He used racist insults. But his work was very entertaining”, he confessed in an interview.

Live Die Repeat and Repeat

Well, everything indicates that Live Die Repeat and Repeat is one of Cruise’s upcoming major dramas, and it is the sequel to the 2014 science fiction film Edge of Tomorrow. This will be directed by Doug Liman, but an exact release date is still unknown.

There are rumors that Tom will return in the role of Cage, just like Emily Blunt in the role of Rita. So far, the only confirmed actor has been Rolando Davila-Beltran, who will play the role of Worker. Jez Butterworth, Matthew Robinson and Hiroshi Sakurazaka are in charge of the screenplay.
