Dramedys are amongst the top genres consumed by Netflix users. This week, one of Blythe Danner‘s best films is the seventh most-watched movie on the platform globally, according to Flix Patrol.
“I’ll See You in My Dreams” follows Carol, a widow who returns to the dating world after 20 years of marriage. In her search for romance, she sees herself involved in two different and challenging relationships that defy her ideas about growing old.
The movie was directed, co-written, and co-produced by Brett Haley (The Hero). It completes its cast with June Squibb, Rhea Perlman, Mary Kay Place and Aarti Mann.
“I’ll See You in My Dreams” is the seventh most-watched film on Netflix
Although it was released eight years ago, “I’ll See You in My Dreams” just became the No. 7 movie in Netflix worldwide. This came as no surprise, since Blythe Danner’s comedies have always been well regarded by critics.
In her role as Carol, Gwyneth Paltrow‘s mother shines as a former singer that reluctantly tries to discover love again. The story she portrays is filled with jokes and puns, but never ceases to showcase the tragedy of losing a loved one.
After the movie had premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, it was nominated for several accolades, which intended to award Blythe Danner’s acting skills. The Emmy Award Winner always achieves outstanding performances, and this case wasn’t the exception.
Blythe Danner’s romantic movie surpasses “A Rainy Day in New York” on Netflix
Brett Haley’s film has garnered such a significant number of views in recent weeks that it surpassed “Death Whisperer” on the top 10. Despite being added to the catalog not long ago, the Thai horror production couldn’t manage to secure its seventh position.

Furthermore, the classic dramedy also outperformed “A Rainy Day in New York”, one of Woody Allen’s most acclaimed titles. Its notable cast, including Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez and Jude Law, lost its spot in the ranking to Blythe Danner’s portrayal as the widow Carol Petersen.
Over the past few days, “I’ll See You in My Dreams” and “Jimmy Carr: Natural Born Killer” have been in a tight race for the sixth place. Regardless of being released just two days ago, the stand-up production is struggling to keep up with the views gathered by the former.
