Netflix: 'Adagio,' the must-watch crime drama that entered the global Top 10

The Italian crime drama "Adagio," directed by Stefano Sollima, has become one of the trending movies on Netflix. Here's all you need to know about this must-watch film.

If you’re looking for something new to watch on Netflix, the Top 10 can be a good place to start. Especially when it comes to international films. For the Week of May 13 to May 19, one of the trending movies on the platform was the Italian thriller “Adagio.”

This dramatic action thriller, which first premiered back in 2023, is directed by Stefano Sollima, who is known for movies such as “Sicario: Day of The Soldado,” “ACAB: All Cops Are Bastards,” and “Without Remorse,” which stars Michael B. Jordan.

Per Netflix’s Tudum, the film was the eighth most-watched movie of the past week thanks to 1.8 million views. Some other trending Non-English movies include the horror thriller “Shaitaan,” and the Brazilian comedy “Partiu América.”

Everything to know about ‘Adagio,’ the trending action thriller

“Adagio” follows the story of Manuel, a sixteen year-old boy that is trying to enjoy his life while also taking care of his elderly father. However, his life will take a dangerous turn when he is blackmailed to take pictures of a mysterious individual. When he refuses to follow through, he will be chased down, forcing him to ask the help of former criminals friends of his father.

The movie cast include Pierfrancesco Favino, Toni Servillo, Valerio Mastandrea, Adriano Giannini, Francesco Di Leva, Emilio Franchini, Marzio El Moety, Lorenzo Adorni, and Silvia Salvatori, among others.

“Adagio” originally premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for a Golden Lion. The film was well received by critics, which gave it mostly positive reviews, especially praising the performance and direction.

Among the reviews, Damon Wise compared the film to Elio Petri’s Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion; while Variety described it as a “solidly assembled yarn about the on-the-ground consequences of a moral breakdown at the heart of the state”.
