Despite its financial success, A Million Ways to Die in the West received mixed to negative reviews. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 33% rating based on 212 reviews, with an average score of 4.90/10.
The consensus was that the film, while offering a few laughs and showcasing a talented cast, suffered from being overlong and aimless. Audience reception was somewhat better, with CinemaScore giving it an average grade of “B.”
