The Spanish phenomenon that started with “Money Heist” and continued with “Elite” seems to have found a new successor to carry its torch. We are talking about “Gangs of Galicia,” the new thriller series that has rapidly risen to the top spots on Netflix worldwide.
The show features some of the most prolific actors from Spain, Clara Lago and Tamar Novas, who play a lawyer and the son of a major drug dealer entangled in a passionate romance with many dangerous secrets.
As with the best crime productions, viewers have already devoured the first seven episodes of the first season and are already asking for more. Will there be a second season?

Without giving any spoilers, we can assure you that, in terms of story, “Gangs of Galicia” needs a second season. It has left not just one but several open endings, creating cliffhangers that set the perfect stage for another installment.
Spanish series are often renewed for multiple seasons, as they are major entertainment hits with international appeal. Just look at “Money Heist” or “Vis a Vis,” which both had five seasons.
It’s also important to note that the title is financed by Netflix, which frequently greenlights multiple installments for productions from Spain. The two examples mentioned above were also distributed by Netflix.
The only thing that could prevent a second season is low viewership, which is clearly not an issue. In its first hours on the platform, “Gangs of Galicia” became the sixth most-watched series in the United States and the second worldwide.
As for a release date, we will likely have to wait at least a year, as this is the standard timeframe for Netflix shows. Hopefully, we can expect the second season of “Gangs of Galicia” to arrive by mid-2025, given that the leads don’t have many projects on their upcoming agendas and could start filming soon.
