If you’re still haunted by Nicolas Cage and his terrifying role in “Longlegs,” prepare yourself for more scares. Neon, the production and distribution company behind that horror flick, is keeping the chills coming with “Cuckoo,” their major genre release for the latter half of 2024.

The film stars Hunter Schafer from “Euphoria,” who plays Gretchen, a seventeen-year-old girl who moves to the German Alps to live with her father and his new family. Once there, she begins to experience unsettling phenomena, and her father’s boss emerges as a prime suspect.

One of the most praised aspects of the picture is its setting, which significantly contributes to its eerie atmosphere. Discover where this chilling story was filmed.

Where was ‘Cuckoo’ shot?

Set in the German Alps, Cuckoo was filmed in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Specific locations included the cities of Wuppertal, Krefeld, and Mönchengladbach, according to IMDb.

Hunter Schafer shared in Them that the adrenaline-pumping scenes and the isolating nature of the Alpine settings were so intense that she needed to hold someone’s hand after each take involving these elements. Director Tilman Singer supported her off-camera by comforting her after these scenes.

The Alps have long been a backdrop for chilling tales. While their beauty is undeniable, they can also host terrifying stories. Notable productions such as Lars Von Trier’s “Antichrist” and Oliver Hirschbiegel’s “The Experiment” also utilized this dramatic landscape.

The fictional hotel in Cuckoo is called Resort Alpschatten. Although the real identity of the building is undisclosed, Neon has created a fake booking site for the hotel to enhance the viewing experience, following the success of a similar promotion for “Longlegs”.
