Although Stephen King is known for his prolific output, with 24 projects currently on his upcoming movies and series agenda, one in particular has captured everyone’s attention and sparked a fierce battle between distribution companies to acquire its rights since last year.

Now, we can officially announce that the film is ready to hit theaters, as Neon has emerged victorious and has set an official release date. Expectations are high, given its involvement in some of the most captivating horror titles in recent years, such as “Infinity Pool” and “Titane.”

Why did all the major U.S. distributors fight tooth and nail to obtain this picture? Well, it’s not just because of King’s involvement. Even without the author’s name attached, “The Monkey” stands as a spine-chilling piece of horror literature, and the star-studded cast set to bring it to the big screen only adds to the anticipation. Here, find everything you need to know about it.

Plot, cast and recently announced release date for ‘The Monkey’

After discovering their father’s old toy monkey hidden away in the attic, twin brothers Hal and Bill find themselves amidst a series of alarming deaths. Eager to escape the haunting, they decide to part ways and leave the cursed toy behind. Yet, as the mysterious deaths return, the brothers are drawn back together, determined to rid themselves of the malevolent presence of the toy once and for all.

This plotline is terrifying on its own, but the cast makes it even more interesting. Theo James, Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, and Sarah Levy are just a few of the names in this stunning ensemble.

And the significance doesn’t end with the actors. Oz Perkins, son of “Psycho” star Anthony Perkins, directs the film. Neon has entrusted him with this second collaboration after “Longlegs,” the company’s jewel of 2024, set to release on July 12.
