After their successful collaboration in “The Worst Person in the World” (2021), director Joachim Trier and actress Renate Reinsve will team up once again for his highly anticipated next film, a family drama-comedy titled “Sentimental Value.”

“The Worst Person in the World’ was a critically acclaimed drama which followed Julie, a young woman navigating the complexities of love, career, and identity. Reinsve won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance.

However, the movie was also a success at the box office, generating more than $12 million at the global box office. So, with production for “Sentimental Value” already started in Oslo, here’s everything to know about the film.

Who is in the cast?

Trier will team up again with Renate Reinsve, who had her breakthrough with “The Worst Person in the World.” This time she will be joined by other A-listers such as Elle Fanning (The Great) and Stellan Skarsgård (Dune), as well as Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (A Beautiful Life).

What is ‘Sentimental Value’ about?

The plot centers on Nora (Reinsve), a celebrated stage actress, and her younger sister Agnes (Lilleaas), whose lives are disrupted when their estranged father, Gustav (Skarsgård), reappears after a long absence. Gustav, once a famous film director, seeks to make a comeback and reconcile with Nora by offering her the lead role in his new film. However, Nora is unwilling to reconnect with her father or participate in his project.

The film is described as an intimate and often humorous exploration of family dynamics, memories, and the healing power of art. Fanning will play an American movie star who arrives in Oslo.

Is there a release date for the dramedy?

There’s no official release date yet, but the film is set for a 2025 release in theaters. Also, per Deadline, the movie is expected to compete in the Cannes Film Festival in 2025.
