Good news, fans! The story of Poppy and Alex is coming to the big screen. “People We Meet on Vacation” is the next adaptation being developed based on the works of the renowned mega-author Emily Henry.

The contemporary romance novel was published in 2021, and since then, it has gained a strong reader base. It has been well-received by critics, solidifying the author as a standout in the romance fiction genre.

The movie will be coming to Netflix and will have Brett Haley as the director, who is also known for All the Bright Places and I’ll See You in My Dreams. One of the first confirmed cast members is Tom Blyth, who had a great 2024.

Who are the cast of People We Meet on Vacation?

In early August, it was confirmed who will star as the main characters, Poppy and Alex. None other than Emily Bader (Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin) and Tom Blyth (Billy the Kid and The Gilded Age) will bring these roles to life.

The British actor is known for portraying an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow in the fantasy drama “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes“, one of the major productions of late 2023.

As for the actress, she is not only on the rise, but 2024 has been a great year for her as she starred in the television adaptation of the book “My Lady Jane“, which continues to be available in Prime Video‘s catalog.

In September, it was confirmed that these figures are not the only ones participating in the project, as they will be joined by stars such as Sarah Catherine Hook, Lukas Gage, Jameela Jamil and Lucien Laviscount.

What is People We Meet on Vacation about?

As often happens with novels adapted into films, the plot undergoes some changes to fit the story into two hours. However, the movie will still follow best friends Alex Nilsen and Poppy Wright.

She wants to explore the world; he prefers to stay home with a book, yet somehow, they are the best of friends. They live far apart, but every summer, for a decade, they take a week-long vacation together.

The novel revolves around Poppy and Alex, two best friends who are opposites in many ways. Poppy is outgoing, adventurous, and loves to travel, while Alex is reserved, homey, and prefers peace and quiet. Despite their differences, they have been inseparable since they met in college.

For more than a decade, they have kept the tradition of taking a trip together every summer, even though they live in different cities and lead very different lives. However, something happened during their last trip that changed their relationship, and since then, they have been distant.

Two years after their last adventure together, Poppy, feeling trapped in a life that doesn’t satisfy her, decides that the only way to be happy again is to reconnect with Alex and revive their summer travel tradition. Convincing him to take one last trip, she hopes this can fix things between them and maybe even reignite the spark of something more than friendship.

When could People We Meet on Vacation be released?

It has not yet been confirmed when “People We Meet on Vacation” will make its big debut, as the project is currently in development. However, People reported that Netflix will produce it, so it could be released directly on the platform.
