While the contemporary horror genre boasts numerous talented directors, Mike Flanagan has solidified his status as one of the most significant among them. With 19 credits to his name, he has received widespread acclaim since his debut and continues to expand his impressive filmography.
To highlight some of his best titles, we must mention his groundbreaking film “Oculus,” which paved the way for his collaborations with Stephen King on two of the best adaptations of his work: “Gerald’s Game” and “Doctor Sleep”. Additionally, Flanagan has found tremendous success on Netflix with “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” and “Midnight Mass”.
Now, he is gearing up for the release of the highly anticipated fantasy drama “The Life of Chuck,” featuring Tom Hiddleston and based on another King story. Meanwhile, one of his most celebrated works is returning to the big screen!
Mike Flanagan’s renowned psychological thriller ‘Hush’ reopens in theaters on October 16
According to Bloody Disgusting, Mike Flanagan’s iconic 2016 film “Hush” is not only returning to digital for the first time in years but is also set for a theatrical release next week! For many fans, this film was their introduction to Flanagan, making this news particularly exciting for long-time followers.
The story follows Maddie, a deaf writer living in isolation in a house deep in the woods. When a masked killer appears at her door, she must rely on her wits and resourcefulness to survive the night. Unable to call for help, Maddie engages in a deadly game of cat and mouse, using her keen senses and determination to outsmart her attacker.
Hush will have its exclusive re-release in U.S. theaters starting October 16. The announcement revealed some thrilling surprises for its return to the big screen!
“The film has been fully restored and approved by Flanagan. This eagerly anticipated theatrical engagement will showcase a newly restored version of Hush for the first time on the big screen. Additionally, the event screening will feature a livestream Q&A with filmmaker Mike Flanagan and the film’s co-writer and star Kate Siegel. The live Q&A, featuring Flanagan and Siegel, is set to be held at Vidiots in Eagle Rock, California, immediately after the screening, and will be livestreamed to select theaters nationwide.”
While “Hush” was always labeled as a Netflix classic since being added to the catalog in 2021, there’s nothing quite like experiencing Flanagan’s nail-biting suspense in theatres. Given that its no longer available on the #1 platform and the director has focused more on streaming productions than on pictures with extensive theatrical runs, this is a fantastic opportunity for fans!
