'I Used To Be Funny': How to watch or stream Rachel Sennott's film in the US

Rachel Sennott is known for her work in comedies such as “Bottoms,” which she co-wrote and starred in alongside Ayo Edebiri, “Shiva Baby” and “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” And the star’s latest film, “I Used To Be Funny,” a dramedy, comes to further prove that she is one to watch.

“I Used To Be Funny” was written and directed by Ally Pankiw, in her directorial debut. The drama-comedy premiered at the 2023 South by Southwest festival, as well as having its Canadian premier at the 2023 Inside Out Film and Video Festival, where it won the Audience Award for best narrative feature film.

The movie stars Sennott as Sam, a stand-up comedian living in Toronto who is struggling with depression that has impacted her career after Brooke (Olga Petsa), a young girl for whom she previously served as a nanny, goes missing.

When and where to watch ‘I Used To Be Funny’ online

Netflix will add the movie to its catalog on September 5th, 2024. The movie is set to arrive on Netflix shortly after its limited release in select theaters and on VOD. For now the film is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Youtube, Apple and more.

According to What’s New on Netflix, it’s anticipated that the movie will only be available on Netflix in the United States, as Utopia is the sole distributor. However, with multiple international distributors involved, it’s possible that other regions may receive the movie at a later date.

It was shown in several theaters in New York and Los Angeles starting June 7th, as reported by IndieWire, and became available on VOD platforms from June 18th.

Who else is in the cast of ‘I Used to Be Funny’?

The cast also includes Sabrina Jalees and Caleb Hearon as Sam’s fellow comedians and roommates Paige and Philip. Jason Jones appears as Brooke’s father Cameron, Dani Kind as Brooke’s aunt Jill, as well as Ennis Esmer, Dan Beirne, Stephen Alexander, Hoodo Hersi and Miguel Rivas in supporting roles.
