As usually happens in the world of comics, timelines are not easy to follow. Especially now that there are also alternate timelines in the Multiverse. And that’s the case of this third installment of Deadpool, which includes 45 cameos from characters.

There are 13 X-Men films in total, with Wolverine appearing in nine of them. The Wolverine’s feature in Deadpool is certainly part of the plan for Disney to bring the X-Men, previously owned by Fox, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which Professor X (Patrick Stewart) made his debut in ‘Multiverse of Madness.’

Now, in which timeline is ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ set?

For one thing, Deadpool seems to exist in both the primary “Earth-616” universe—where the Avengers fight Thanos and more—and “Earth-10005,” which is the setting for the X-Men movies. The Avengers and X-Men aren’t part of the same universe (at least not yet), so they are separated by these metafictional boundaries. As you likely know, Deadpool isn’t fond of boundaries and enjoys breaking them four at a time.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also within the Fox X-Men universe, taking place in the year 2024 but after Wolverine’s death in 2029—while also drawing from a completely different X-Men universe where it might be 2024 (or 2029).
