Selena Gomez (Spring Breakers) and Zoe Saldana (Avatar) are just two of the mega stars who will be part of Emilia Perez, the highly anticipated musical drama, which will be the singer’s first Spanish-language film.

The story follows a lawyer who receives an unexpected offer and has to help a feared cartel boss retire from his businesses and disappear forever, becoming the woman she has always dreamed of being.

Directing and writing the project was Jacques Audiard, known for winning 2 BAFTA awards for the French title “The Beat That My Heart Skipped and “The Sisters Brothers” (2018) with Joaquin Phoenix.

When is Emilia Perez released in theaters?

Emilia Perez finally has a release date, which arrived alongside the first images of the musical drama. The movie is in post-production, but it has been confirmed that it will hit theaters on August 28, 2024.

The story is set in present-day Mexico and follows Rita, who finds herself caught in a series of unfortunate events that could change her destiny forever as she must help a cartel boss.

The cast is not only composed of Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana, but multiple other big stars will accompany them. Karla Sofía Gascón, Edgar Ramírez and Mark Ivanir will be three of the actors playing important roles.

It will be the first time that the Lose You to Love Me singer and the Guardians of the Galaxy actress demonstrate their chemistry on the big screen. The filming took place in Paris and the language is 100% Spanish.
