In the past few years, Formula 1 racing has risen in popularity in the US, and the entertainment industry has taken notes. While Netflix gives behind-the-scenes footage through the docuseries ‘Drive To Survive,’ Hollywood has responded with several films about the sport, including an upcoming Brad Pitt‘s film.

Last year, Adam Driver starred as Enzo Ferrari in Michael Mann’s masterpiece “Ferrari” (which you can watch on Hulu). Now, Pitt is also working on a film centered around the sport, which is set to be released in 2025, and it’s also one of the most expensive upcoming movies, with a reported budget of $140 million.

The actor and producer has been seen filming scenes for the upcoming epic in the Silverstone Circuit in 2023, while Lewis Hamilton is also involved in the production of the movie. Here’s everything we know so far about the highly-anticipated project.

What is the plot of the film?

Pitt revealed to Variety that the film will follow Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s, has a horrible crash, forcing him to retire from the sport. However, a Formula One team owner and friend (Bardem) contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce (Idris) on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP).

Who is behind the F1 movie?

The film will be helmed by Joseph Kosinski, who recently directed Tom Cruise’s smash hit “Top Gun: Maverick.” He is also known for titles such as “Oblivion,” “Tron: Legacy” and “Only the Brave.” Meanwhile, the film is also being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who also was behind “Maverick,” as well as other big franchises such as “Pirates of the Caribbean” and more.

Pitt is also producing. The movie, which is set to be a sports drama, was written by Ehren Kruger, who was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Maverick.” However, Lewis Hamilton has reportedly been working as a consultant. “We want everyone to love it and to really feel that we encapsulate what the essence of this sport is all about,” he said in 2023.
