Nicolas Cage stars in “The Retirement Plan,” an action comedy that is currently the third most watched movie on Hulu in the United States and globally, according to FlixPatrol. The film is only behind “The Creation” and “Barbie,” the latter which is available on the platform via the Max add-on.

“The Retirement Plan” also stars “Twilight” actress Ashley Greene, as well as Ron Perlman, Jackie Earl Haley, Grace Byers, Ernie Hudson, Lynn Whitfield, Joel David Moore and Thalia Campbell. It was directed by Tim Brown, who is known for his work in “Devil in The Dark” and “Treasure Hounds.”

The film has been slowly climbing the charts on the platform since its streaming release on Dec. 15th. It had its theatrical release back in September, but the comedy didn’t even gross $1 million at the box office ($751,370). However, the film was, surprisingly, well received by critics (60% on Rotten Tomatoes).

What is ‘The Retirement Plan’ about?

The film focuses on Ashley (Greene), who, after being caught up in a criminal enterprise, sends her daughter Sarah (Campbell) with her estranged father Matt (Cage), who is living in the Cayman Islands.

However, as they soon are tracked down by crime boss Donnie and his lieutenant Bobo, the three of them become entangled in a dangerous web. Luckily, Matt has a secret past as an assassin that Ashley knew nothing about.

What are other upcoming Nicolas Cage’s projects?

While Cage has enjoyed critical acclaim and mainstream success, the actor has recently opted to appear in low-budget independent films. As he told Variety, these types of projects give him more freedom to experiment. And he has several movies lined up.

The actor will star in “Longlegs,” a horror film directed by Oz Perkins, as a serial killer who is hunted down by a talented FBI rookie Lee Harker, played by Maika Monroe. Cage will also appear in “Arcadian,” an action movie by Ben Brewer, and “The Surfer,” a psychological thriller directed by Lorcan Finnegan.
