<p>In its first weekend on the platform,<strong> “Wish”</strong> has become the <strong>number one <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/movies">movie</a> </strong>on <strong><a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/disney-plus">Disney+</a></strong> worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. Meanwhile, Disney revealed on Monday (April 8th) that the film earned <strong>13.2 million views globally</strong> in its first five days on streaming.</p>



<p>That means that the <strong><a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/animated">animated</a></strong> musical, starring<strong> Chris Pine </strong>and <strong>Ariana DeBose</strong>, had the third biggest premiere on the service, just behind “Encanto” and “Frozen 2.” The film is the latest in a series of movies that got a second life on streaming, such as <strong>“The Marvels</strong>.”</p>



<p>“Wish” was released in November 2023 to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the<strong> studio. </strong>However, it ended up being a disappointment both critically and commercially, even as it grossed over<strong> $253 million</strong>.</p>



<h2>Wish didn’t resonate with critics </h2>



<p>Wish takes place in the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha (DeBose), a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by an energy called Star. She has to save her kingdom from its <strong>ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico (Pine).</strong></p>



<p>Alan Tudyk, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Kumiyama, Harvey Guillén, <strong>Evan Peters</strong>, <strong>Ramy Youssef</strong> and Jon Rudnitsky rounded up the cast. The film was directed by <strong>Chris Buck</strong> and <strong>Fawn Veerasunthorn,</strong> from a script by Disney Animation chief Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore.</p>

<p>The art style combines computer animation with the look of traditional animation, and the story was supposed to explain the origin of the “wishing star.” Meanwhile, <strong>Julia Michaels</strong> and <strong>Benjamin Rice </strong>wrote its original songs, and Dave Metzger penning its original score.</p>



<p>However, the film wasn’t well received by critics, who slammed the film’s lack of originality and<strong> over-reliance on references to the studio.</strong> On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie got 49% of approval from 217 reviews.</p>

It might be considered a surprise, but the truth is, it was one of the most acclaimed fantasy series on the platform recently.</p>

<p>It currently remains in the Top 10 and among the top positions. According to Flix Patrol, the metrics-focused site, the show created by <strong>Rick Riordan</strong> and <strong>Jonathan E. Steinberg</strong> stays in the top 3, only surpassed by the medical series <em>Grey</em>‘s <em>Anatomy</em> and the animated children’s show <em>Bluey</em>.</p>



<p>Variety confirmed on Wednesday, January 7, that CEO <strong>Bob Iger</strong> acknowledged the substantial viewership the title gathered. In the latest quarterly earnings call, the first season streamed for over 110 million hours, both on Disney+ and Hulu, totaling 20.6 million total views.</p>



<p>Fans and readers of the story have had a lot of hope, especially after the actor portraying Poseidon,<strong> Toby Stephens</strong>, and the executive producer <strong>Jon Steinberg</strong> discussed the future of the series.</p>

<p>Both granted an interview to TVLine, and according to Screen Rant, Steinberg talked about people’s reactions to the adaptation and when an announcement for a second season on the streaming giant could arrive. He said:</p>



<p><em>“I think everyone is really focused on making sure that people have the reaction we hope they have to the show. There are some people who spend their days thinking about what the next season will be like, so hopefully, that work will become a bit more official sooner rather than later</em>“.</p>



<p>While Stephens added, <em>“I came in knowing that both Jon and executive producer Dan Shotz said, ‘Well, you know, it’s a recurring character.’ When I read the scripts they sent me, I thought, ‘This is really nice.’ It’s something that will be fun to do, and obviously, it’s a great privilege to be part of such a beloved franchise that means so much to so many people”</em>.</p>



<h2>Which book would the second season adapt?</h2>



<p>The first season adapted the first book in the series, titled “The Lightning Thief”, but the series has already begun to introduce some important characters for a second season, which would adapt the sequel titled “The Sea of Monsters”.</p>



<p>Both novels had been previously adapted in the 2010 and 2013 movies, starring <strong>Logan Lerman</strong>, <strong>Brandon T. Jackson </strong>and <strong>Alexandra Daddario</strong> as a more adolescent Percy Jackson, Grover and Annabeth.</p>

<p>Indeed, the first season of <strong>Percy Jackson and the Olympians continues to be the most-watched series</strong> on the entire platform globally, breaking several records. According to Screen Rant, the show had 572 million minutes of viewing in just the first week.</p>

<p><strong>‘The Marvels,’ </strong>the last installment of the <strong>MCU franchise</strong>, will arrive on <strong>Disney+</strong> on <strong>February 7th</strong>, almost three months after it hit theaters. The <strong><a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/category/films">film</a></strong>, directed by <strong>Nia DaCosta</strong>, had the lowest-grossing box office debut in the MCU history, with $46 million in its first weekend.</p>



<p>Of course, the numbers without context don’t tell the whole story. With a production budget of<strong> $274.8 million</strong>, the film didn’t break even, only grossing $206 million worldwide (per Box Office MoJo) during its theatrical run. According to <strong><em>Forbes</em></strong>, the film needed to gross at least $439.6 million to break even, while having to earn around <strong>$700 million to become profitable</strong>.</p>



<p>Of course, it also didn’t help that it premiered just days after the<strong> SAG-AFTRA strike ended</strong>, barely having promotion. When it comes to critical reception, the movie was also received with mixed reviews with experts praising the cast performances, <strong>but criticizing the script.</strong> However, the movie has the opportunity to have a new life on streaming.</p>



<h2>What is ‘The Marvels’ about?</h2>



<p>The movie stars<strong> Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, </strong>and<strong> Iman Vellani</strong> as Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan. The three heroes team up as “the Marvels” after they begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers.</p>



<p>In the long MCU timeline, the film is the 33rd of the franchise. It’s a continuation of Captain Marvel (2019), but, of course, viewers had to be aware of what happened in other Disney+ series such as <strong>Ms. Marvel</strong> and<strong> WandaVision.</strong></p>

<p>While critics weren’t that enthusiastic about the film, the movie has a solid audience score on <strong>Rotten Tomatoes (82 percent)</strong>. Also, the movie will be competing at the upcoming People’s Choice Awards 2024, for Action Movie of the Year.</p>
