Cillian Murphy swept the awards season, taking home the Oscar, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s biopic “Oppenheimer.” But instead of slowing down, the Irish actor has already some projects lined up.
While he has always worked steadily in Hollywood, Murphy is known for being selective with his projects. In an interview with GQ, the actor said that he is happy being “unemployed” while he waits for the right film. He also said that he prefers to do a movie a year, and preferably not in the summer.

While plot details are scarce, it’s expected that the film will be a continuation of the sixth season of the series, as a seventh installment couldn’t be made due to the pandemic. There’s no release date yet.
Blood Runs Coal (TBD)
Deadline announced that Murphy will also star and produce in “Blood Runs Coal,” an adaptation of the non-fiction book by Mar A. Bradley, which details the murders of Joseph “Jock” Yablonski, a trade union insider, and his family by a corrupt union leader.
The script will be written by Jez Butterworth (Spectre and Ford V Ferrari) and John-Henry Butterworth (Get On Up & Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny). Murphy will play Chip Yablonski, the lawyer son of Jock Yablonski who will seek justice for his father.
28 Years Later (June 20,2025)
28 Days Later had a significant impact on Cillian Murphy’s career, and this year the long-awaited arrival of a new installment in the franchise was announced, which will also star the actor alongside major stars.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer are some of the figures who have been confirmed, and they will be portraying three main characters, who will accompany the one played by the Oppenheimer actor.
“28 Years Later” will hit the big screen on June 20, 2025, so there is still over a year before we can discover the long-awaited sequel and what has happened to Murphy’s character, Jim.
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting) is set to direct, based on a script he developed with Alex Garland (Civil War). Not much is known about the story yet, only that it will be set 28 years after the original events.
