Cillian Murphy swept the awards season, taking home the Oscar, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s biopic “Oppenheimer.” But instead of slowing down, the Irish actor has already some projects lined up.

While he has always worked steadily in Hollywood, Murphy is known for being selective with his projects. In an interview with GQ, the actor said that he is happy being “unemployed” while he waits for the right film. He also said that he prefers to do a movie a year, and preferably not in the summer.

The 47-year-old star is best known for working with Nolan in several films such as Batman Begins, Inception and Dunkirk. Another one of his famous roles is Thomas Shelby in the seriesPeaky Blinders,” one he is set to reprise for an upcoming movie. Here’s all the roles he is set to do next.

Small Things like These (2024)

Murphy not only starred in this historical drama, as he also served as producer. Directed by Tim Mielants and written by Enda Walsh, the film is based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Claire Keegan.

The film is set in Christmas 1985 and it follows coal merchant Bill Furlong, played by Murphy, who makes a discovery at a local convent that makes him confront secrets in the Irish town of New Ross. It premiered during Berlinale to positive reviews, but still doesn’t have a release date for the US.

Peaky Blinders Movie (TBD)

Steven Knight, the series’ creator, confirmed that a Peaky Blinders film was set to start shooting in September in the West Midlands. He also confirmed that Murphy was going to reprise the role of Thomas Shelby.

While plot details are scarce, it’s expected that the film will be a continuation of the sixth season of the series, as a seventh installment couldn’t be made due to the pandemic. There’s no release date yet.

Blood Runs Coal (TBD)

Deadline announced that Murphy will also star and produce in “Blood Runs Coal,” an adaptation of the non-fiction book by Mar A. Bradley, which details the murders of Joseph “Jock” Yablonski, a trade union insider, and his family by a corrupt union leader.

The script will be written by Jez Butterworth (Spectre and Ford V Ferrari) and John-Henry Butterworth (Get On Up & Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny). Murphy will play Chip Yablonski, the lawyer son of Jock Yablonski who will seek justice for his father.
