The final days of August have been significant for pop culture! Sabrina Carpenter released her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, and it has certainly sparked reactions, especially among those her songs seemingly target.

Ever since Sabrina found herself in the spotlight due to the love triangle with Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett, she has masterfully turned romantic disappointments into chart-topping hits, like “Because I Liked a Boy.”

In her latest release, she not only explores her blossoming romance with Barry Keoghan but also reveals details about her recent heartbreak and another love triangle involving Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. While both initially remained silent, the former Fifth Harmony member has now responded to Sabrina’s claims.

Camila Cabello responds to Sabrina Carpenter’s diss with a recent song of hers

While the title Short n’ Sweet might suggest a demure album, Sabrina Carpenter’s latest work is anything but. The release features several tracks targeting Shawn Mendes for rekindling his relationship with Camila Cabello after breaking up with Sabrina. However, the main single, “Taste,” appears to directly address the Cuban artist.

The music video for this track, which features Jenna Ortega and is inspired by “Death Becomes Her,” depicts a bloody battle between the two women for the affection of a man played by Rohan Campbell. With scenes involving voodoo dolls and weapon fights, the short film portrays Sabrina’s frustration, suggesting that every kiss Camila shares with Shawn is a reminder of Sabrina’s influence on his life.

The song reflects Sabrina’s past discontent over Shawn’s return to Camila after their brief relationship. Camila Cabello was quick to respond, posting a TikTok video lip-syncing to “June Gloom” from her latest album, C,XOXO. In the video, Camila questions Shawn’s intentions with strong lyrics, such as “If she’s so amazing, why are you on this side of town? If you like her so much, what are you here trying to find out?”

Camila highlighted the words “Hope it’ll burn out, but it just gets bigger,” suggesting that, despite attempts to move on, she and Shawn can’t seem to escape each other. While the two have been seen together at various events recently, it’s also possible that Camila is using the controversy to promote her music.
