Sabrina Carpenter is truly taking the world by storm! Since 2022, she has been making headlines not only for her music and captivating performances but also for her lyrics that target specific people from her past.

While Carpenter has been in the industry for quite some time, it wasn’t until the love triangle involving Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo that she turned a bad situation into chart-topping hits like “Because I Liked a Boy.”

Now, she’s capitalizing on heartbreak once again, taking several jabs at her ex, Shawn Mendes, across multiple tracks on her latest album, Short n’ Sweet. Here’s a look at which songs subtly reference her former flame.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet: Which tracks revolve around Shawn Mendes?

Those familiar with Sabrina Carpenter’s career and personal life have likely noticed that her relationship with Shawn Mendes is subtly referenced multiple times in her latest release. Their past connection first emerges in the lead single, “Taste,” where Sabrina sings, “You’re wonderin’ why half his clothes went missin’. My body’s where they’re at.”

It’s highly likely that the person she’s addressing is Camila Cabello. The former Fifth Harmony member dated Shawn Mendes from 2019 to 2021. Afterward, Sabrina dated him, only for Camila to be seen with Shawn again, suggesting they reignited their flame, even if not officially. While the song primarily targets the Cuban-born artist, Shawn also gets caught in the crossfire.

There are also tracks that directly reference Shawn. “Coincidence” speaks volumes about how Shawn likely assured Sabrina that he was completely over Camila, only to casually start seeing her again shortly after breaking things off with Sabrina: “Damn it, she looks kinda like the girl you outgrew. Least that’s what you said (That’s what you said).”

Another track, “Dumb & Poetic,” is still being analyzed by fans to determine whether it’s aimed at Joshua Bassett or Shawn Mendes. Both have delved into spirituality and admitted to experimenting with mushrooms, as the lyrics “And I promise the mushrooms aren’t changing your life” reference. However, given Shawn’s well-known interest in meditation over the past few years, a main topic in the hit, the song seems to be about him.

Interestingly, just hours before Sabrina’s album dropped, Shawn posted a video of himself singing a Christian hymn with the caption, “Whether or not you’re religious or believe in a god, sometimes you gotta scrunch up your face and listen to someone sing real good from deep in the soul. Medicine for a tired heart.” It remains to be seen what Shawn will say about Sabrina and Camila when his next album, Shawn, drops on October 18th!
