Fresh from his Oscar-nominated performance in “Poor Things,” Emmy winner Mark Ruffalo will return to TV with the upcoming family comedy “Hal & Harper.” The series is created, written and produced by indie filmmaker Cooper Raiff, who is also set to star.

Raiff is best known for the coming-of-age rom-com “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” which is available to stream on Apple TV+ and also stars Dakota Johnson. The movie premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award for the Dramatic Competition.

Meanwhile, his feature debut “Shithouse,” which he wrote, directed, starred and produced. The movie, released in 2020, received positive reviews after it premiered at the 2020 SXSW, where it was named Best Narrative Feature. So, here’s what we know about “Hal & Harper.”

What is ‘Hal & Harper’ about?

Official details about the series are currently unavailable, but it is described as a comedic family drama. Raiff has described the series as a passion project he has been developing for years.

In a 2020 interview related to his acclaimed debut feature “Shithouse,” he explained that “Hal & Harper” centers on two siblings and their single father, who is forcing them to mature rapidly—so rapidly that the 7- and 9-year-old characters are portrayed by adult actors. Here’s a first look:

Who is in the cast?

According to Deadline, Reinhart and Raiff are reportedly cast as the siblings, Harper and Hal. Ruffalo will play the father. Additionally, Addison Timlin (Blackout) and Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms, No Exit) have been cast as Audrey and Abby, respectively.

Who produces the series?

The series is produced by Bad Bangs LLC and secured an interim agreement to proceed with production during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Raiff is also producing the show with his producing partner, Clementine Quittner, through their company Small Ideas, which they founded last year.

Is there a release date?

No, there’s no release date yet. However, it is expected to come out later this year.
