<p>Speaking to Netflix Tudum, Linklater said that the film is “about a lot of things” but, ultimately, it i<em>s “just a guy who gets in a little too deep. His passions lead him in a direction where he’s deceiving someone he’s in love with, and being someone else. <strong>They have to deal with those repercussions</strong>.”</em></p>



<p>While the film is inspired by a real life character, the late <strong>Gary Johnson</strong>, who worked as a fake hit man for the police, the story is fictionalized and the plot twists are totally the invention of the screenwriters.</p>

<p>In an interview with Elle US, Lipez said that they always considered King for the role of <strong>Halina</strong>, who is the youngest of the Kurc family. <em>“There’s just this strength and intelligence and humor and ambition to Halina that we felt like we knew Joey would capture,”</em> Lipez told the outlet.</p>

The new script was written by <strong>Adam Simon</strong>, who is known for movies such as <strong>Man Down. </strong>He also appears in the film as an officer.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Grillo explained that in post-production, the team came up with the idea of making the film as an <em>“<strong>homage to those ’80s action thrillers</strong>. We nurtured this thing from an idea to the page. It was kind of like giving birth.”</em></p>

<p>However, while the film is being embraced by audiences, critics weren’t that enthusiasts of the movie. It received mixed reviews, with critics praising the action and humorous moments of the film, but stating that the characters were undeveloped. It holds a <strong>40% approval </strong>rating on Rotten Tomatoes.</p>



<p>Curiously, the movie isn’t the first remake of the French movie. There is a 2014 South Korean remake titled <strong>“The Target,”</strong> which starred Ryu Seung-ryong and Lee Jin-wook. Also in 2019, another remake, the Bangladeshi <strong>“Password”</strong> was released.</p>

<h2>The controversies surrounding ‘The Island’</h2>



<p>Bay’s directing style is mostly known for his bombastic action sequences, that might or not be to your taste. However, in this film, he mixes those big explosions and high-speed chases with a more nuanced approach to philosophical themes such as <strong>identity, bioethics, class </strong>and more.</p>



<p>However, as we said, his attempt was more or less successful, and it was received with mixed reviews. Many critics thought that the premise was interesting and the acting was good, but the resolution of the film<strong> leaned too much on the action</strong>, instead of the ethical issues.</p>

<p>According to the press release, the show is described as <em><strong>“an epic saga of war, passion, and power set in Feudal Japan.” </strong></em>The series is set in Japan in the year 1600, at the dawn of the civil war that defined the century.</p>

<h2>Is Shogun based on a real story?</h2>



<p>Clavell’s novel is a fictionalized version of real historical events. For example, the main character, Blackthorne, is inspired by the real-life English navigator <strong>William Adams. </strong>Adams, when he was in Japan, became a samurai under <strong>Tokugawa Ieyasu, </strong>whom the character Toranaga is based on.</p>



<p>Sanada not only stars as Toranaga, he also produced the series. Meanwhile, <strong>Cosmo Jarvis</strong> (Persuasion, Lady Macbeth, It Is In Us All) portrays Blackthorne. <strong>Anna Sawai</strong>, known for playing the role of Naomi in the Apple TV+ drama series Pachinko, will play Toda Mariko.</p>

<p>“<strong>Role Play,”</strong> an <strong><a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/action">action</a></strong> <strong><a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/comedy">comedy</a></strong> thriller with <strong>Kayley Cuoco</strong> and <strong>David Oyelowo</strong>, is currently the number 1 movie on <strong>Prime Video</strong> in the US, according to FlixPatrol, an specialized website that collects viewership data. The <strong><a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/category/films">film</a></strong> reached the top position only three days after its release on Friday, Jan. 12th.</p>



<p>In the United States, the film has surpassed popular titles such as <strong>Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn,”</strong> which had been the most watched film on the platform since its release on streaming back on Dec. 22.</p>

<p>However, globally,<strong> “Saltburn”</strong> is still the most popular film on the platform, while “Role Play” is the second most-watched movie. <h2>‘Role Play,’ the mystery thriller triumphing on Prime Video</h2>



<p>Cuoco, who also produces the film, stars as Emma, an internationally wanted <strong>contract killer </strong>living under a false name in suburban New Jersey and married for 7 years to Dave (Oyelowo). However, when they attempted to “role play” in New York City for their wedding anniversary, things go awry as another assassin (Bill Nighy) recognizes Emma.</p>

<p>Directed by <strong>Thomas Vincent </strong>and written by Seth Owen, the rest of the cast also includes Rudi Dharmalingam and Connie Nielsen. Despite its popularity on the platform, the movie received mostly negative reviews from critics, scoring a <strong>19% of approval on Rotten Tomatoes.</strong></p>



<p><strong>Variety </strong>said that the movie “thankfully” doesn’t take itself too seriously, especially as its protagonist is <em>“an immorally ruthless hitwoman”.</em> Meanwhile, <strong>The Hollywood Reporter</strong>, in a mostly negative review in which they criticize the script and direction, gave Cuoco and Oyelowo<strong> positive notes</strong> for their performances.</p>

However, according to <strong>FlixPatrol</strong>, the second position goes to Denzel Washington’s <strong><a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/action">action</a> <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/thriller">thriller</a></strong> <strong>“The Equalizer 3,”</strong> which was released in theaters in August, 2023.</p>



<p>The film, which arrived on the platform on January 1st, stars Washington as <strong>Robert McCall, </strong>a retired U.S. Marine and DIA officer. This time, McCall is in a small town in South Italy but when he discovers that his new friends are intimidated by local crime bosses, he sets out to free them.</p>

<p>“The Equalizer 3” success on Netflix only two weeks after arriving on the platform isn’t surprising, considering that the film also smashed the box office. During its theatrical run, the thriller grossed <strong>$191 million worldwide </strong>against a $70 million budget.</p>

<p>While the film is considered to be the final film of the franchise, Fuqua has expressed interest in making a prequel of Robert McCall’s origins. Speaking to JoBlo, the director admitted that it would be a “cool” idea, and that Michael B. Jordan or <strong>John David Washington</strong>, son of Denzel, would also be great in the role of a young Robert McCall.</p>
