The story follows Solène Marchand, a 40-year-old single mother, who begins an unexpected romance with Hayes Campbell, a 24-year-old lead singer of the world’s most popular boy band, August Moon.
Michael Showalter was in charge of directing and co-writing the screenplay with Jennifer Westfeldt. After so much hype, many have been wondering if there will be a sequel, but it’s still a mystery.
Adaptations based on books are not easy to pull off, especially because readers’ expectations are often very high. However, when asked about the modified ending, the filmmaker said:
“The ending is more in line with the type of movie we were making. This is not a tragic romance story”. Additionally, he said to TV Line that he wanted to “give the audience a feeling of hope”.
