Ayo Edebiri is one of the most interesting young talents in Hollywood thanks to an incredible 2023 in which she appeared in several films and series. Of course, she is most known for her role as Sydney in “The Bear,” for which she just won a Golden Globe award, but one of her best works was the teen comedy “Bottoms,” which you can watch on Prime Video.

The film is Emma Seligman’s sophomore feature. Seligman co-wrote the script with collaborator Rachel Sennott, who also stars alongside Edebiri. It follows two queer teens who create a self-defense club to flirt with popular cheerleaders.

While bombing at the box office, the film received critical acclaim for its humor and performances. It was also well received due to its ability to feel contemporary yet evoking a nostalgia from early 2000s teen movies.

“Bottoms” was one of Edeberi’s most acclaimed performances of the past year, however, the film suffered from the lack of promotion due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike. It also stars Ruby Cruz, Havana Rose Liu, Kaia Gerber, Nicholas Galitzine, Miles Fowler, Dagmara Domińczyk, and Marshawn Lynch.

Aaprt from “Bottoms,” she voiced roles in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, as well as having a supporting role in the musical comedy “Theater Camp” (which is available to watch on Hulu).

Edebiri will star next in “Opus,” an upcoming American horror film written and directed by Mark Anthony Green, in his directorial debut. It will also star Emmy-winner John Malkovich, who will also appear in the upcoming Apple TV+ series “The New Look.”
