Since Wes Craven unleashed the first “Scream” film upon the world, it was clear that Ghostface would become an enduring phenomenon. This is evident from the immense success of the latest installment in the franchise, “Scream VI,” which ranks among the most-watched movies on Paramount+ globally.

Though it’s widely acknowledged that the franchise reached its pinnacle under Craven’s direction, the latest entry didn’t disappoint at the box office. Despite having a budget of $33 million, it grossed a staggering $169 million, quintupling its initial investment.

With such phenomenal earnings, Paramount Pictures is already underway with the production of the seventh installment, with Neve Campbell to battle the masked enemy once again.

The movie finds itself in stiff competition against other entries in its genre, given the abundance of horror productions on the streaming platform. While it has surpassed “Paranormal Activity 2” by a significant margin, it faces a formidable opponent in “Smile,” the 2022 sensation.

Continuing the narrative of the survivors from the Woodsboro murders depicted in the previous installment, “Scream VI” shifts its setting to New York—a departure from the franchise’s usual suburban backdrop—as Ghostface resumes his hunt.

Headlining the cast are Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, emerging as the new icons of horror for this generation. Courtney Cox returns for the sixth time, joined by Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Skeet Ulrich, and Roger Jackson.

Despite the picture’s quality, a significant portion of the “Scream” fanbase remains enraged by the producers’ decision to exclude Neve Campbell from the latest installment. While the actress expressed interest in participating, she was proposed a salary offer that fell short of her star status, ultimately leading to her withdrawal from the project.
