Washington Irving’s 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has been the inspiration for several movies and TV shows. Some of the most iconic include the animated Disney movie from the 1940s, as well as Tim Burton’s film starring Johnny Depp. However, the story will come back to the small screen with a remake for Paramount+, according to CBR.com.

The original story follows Ichabod Crane, a schoolmaster from Connecticut, who stays in the town of Sleepy Hollow. While there he falls for 18-year-old Katrina Van Tassel and competes with local hero Abraham for her hand. Ichabod is rejected and, while riding home, is confronted by a ghost of local legend, known as the Headless Horseman.

However, every adaptation puts its own spin to it and this upcoming remake won’t be any different. While details are scarce, here’s everything we know about the movie, which will be directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer.

What has Lindsey Anderson Beer said about the remake?

Anderson Beer is known for being the writer-director of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, and she has said that she will have a fresh perspective on Washington Irving’s classic tale. Beer has already embarked on developing the movie, expressing her intention to delve into underexplored facets of Ichabod Crane’s tale, the history of Sleepy Hollow, and the enigmatic Headless Horseman.

In an interview with Collider from September 2023, Beer said that she will be exploring some questions that other adaptations overlooked: “What are the questions left unanswered from the book? And what are the parts of the book that haven’t been explored in movies?”

In that sense, she also spoke about the similarities between Pet Sematary and Sleepy Hollow: “You know, there are a lot of skill sets that are similar in terms of its beloved IP,” referring, of course, to managing the expectations that come with the task.

Is there any cast or release details?

While Anderson Beer has been working on the project, which is generating buzz due to her hints about the story’s direction, there’s no information regarding the cast or release details. However, Paramount, who officially announced the project in 2022, hasn’t said anything in terms of production.
