After its release in September 2021, ‘Squid Game’ became the most-watched Non-English series on Netflix globally with 265,200,000 hours viewed. While the thriller series was supposed to be a limited show, its success was too big to ignore.

In January 2022, Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos confirmed that a second season was in the works: “The Squid Game universe has begun,” he said to Variety at the time. Since then, fans have been waiting to watch the continuation of the story, after the streamer also released a reality show based on the series.

Season 1 introduced fans to the deadly game that compels participants to risk their lives for a chance at a life-altering cash prize—or face devastating consequences. The show’s protagonist, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), is down on his luck, and Season 2 will continue the story following his shocking decisions in the Season 1 finale. Here’s what to know.

Squid Game Season 2: Release date

Netflix has finally confirmed that Season 2 of ‘Squid Game’ will be released on December 26, 2024. The second season is coming three years after the release of the first one in 2021. So fans have been eagerly waiting for the continuation of the story.

It’s confirmed that several familiar faces will return to the Squid Game cast, including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun. Joining them are newcomers Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an, who will all bring new characters to Squid Game Season 2.

Squid Game: What is Season 2 plot?

According to Netflix’s official synopsis, Season 2 of the ‘Squid Game’ is set three years after the victory of Player 456, who is still resolute in his mission to uncover and stop the masterminds behind the brutal contest.

So, per the synopsys, “Using his winnings to bankroll his search, Gi-hun begins his quest by seeking out the man in the sharp suit who plays ddakji in the subway. However, when his investigation finally bears fruit, the journey to dismantle the organization becomes far more perilous than he had anticipated: to put an end to the game, he must re-enter it.
